Purpose : To provide an excellent, specialist, community based service for adolescents and young adults who are presenting to mental health services for the first time with psychosis, or who are at significant risk of developing a psychotic disorder and their families/whanau. Appropriate interviews and assessments, including mental status examinations, are used to develop and implement client oriented goals. Intervention is based on data gathered from assessments and the case management process, and is in keeping with models and standards of early psychosis intervention practice. Intervention is provided on a basis that is flexible in time and place to best meet client goals. Identified client goals are met through referral to other relevant team members and other services as appropriate. All EPI clients have a full psychiatric history gathered and current Recovery Plan that is reviewed sixmonthly, to ensure client goals are met. Choices are provided to clients by informing them of options and outcomes available to them. Attend and make recommendations at relevant meetings regarding client care. Act as a resource person to EPI team members and other relevant Mental Health Services and NGOs. Be available to the team members for advice, support and information relating to client care.
