Connecting with Kids Officers working with the Avon Community School Corporation are all Nationally Certified School Resource Officers. Officers routinely visit with students, teachers, and administrators in public and private schools. Officers are asked to present lessons on safety through a number of schools

Partnership with Avon Schools Launched the L.E.A.D Academy and R.I.S.E. curriculum with Sergeant Lewis. 20 Students.

Connecting with Avon Schools Coordinated with African Diaspora Club on forum for BE THE CHANGE Focused on opening lines of communication with minorities and law enforcement. Worked with Indiana State Police, Brownsburg Police, and Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department.

New Officers in 2016 We welcomed Officer Evan Hibschman and Eric Hollingsworth to the Avon Police Department. CSO Hope Mueller. Community Support Officer Hope Mueller Merit Officer Eric Hollingsworth Merit Officer Evan Hibschman

Canine Nero and Officer Tom Owens Hunter retired in 2016 and Nero was purchased from grant program. Nero was deployed on 24 occasions. Nero made 14 criminal apprehensions. Nero was involved in 9 narcotic arrests. Nero has recovered marijuana, heroin, and methamphetamine. Training included 415 hours for 2016. Deployed for multiple public demonstrations. **Only narcotics certified for 3 months**

Community Active Shooter Training Facilitated free training on A.L.I.C.E for nearly 100 members of our community, including schools and businesses. Assisted by the Hendricks County Sheriff s Department

Crime Action Team Initiative (CAT) New evidence-based proactive policing program designed to reduce crime within the retail district hotspots in Avon. GOALS Reduce Violent Crime Reduce Fraud/Forgery RESULTS Robbery 53.33% Funded from Hot Spots Policing Grant for $31,104.00 won in 2015. Forgery 7.14%

Citizens Police Academy - 2016 2016 was the 8 th year of the program with 12 graduates. Now over 100 program alumni. Program idea came from Sgt. Wittl. Ran by Sgt. Lewis Avon PD assists other agencies in launching their programs.

Leadership and Professional Development Sergeant Lewis graduated from Leadership Hendricks County Class of 2016. Chief Stoops was accepted to the 2017 class. Assistant Chief Nugent graduated from IMPD Leadership Academy Class of 2016. Sgt. Wittl enrolled in 2017 class.

BACK THE BLUE Campaign A number of businesses supported this campaign throughout 2016. Signs, stickers, and blue light bulbs throughout the community to support law enforcement. In support of 140 officers killed in the line of duty in 2016.

Giving Back to Our Community Employees volunteered their personal time to participate in fundraiser events and the 2016 Avon Comm unity Lip Dub.

National Night Out Against Crime 2016 Second Annual Event: Held at Lowes is Avon. Agreed to host for 2017! Over $10,000 in cash, food, and prize donations from 60 vendors and attractions!

Child ID Program Funded in 2015 with donations from Avon business. Over 1,000 children enrolled in the database/program. Was available at 8 different events throughout the community in 2016.

Notable Achievements Rx Take-Back Program Disposal of over 720lbs of unwanted prescription medications in 2016. Assisted Hendricks County Solid Waste Management with similar program. Expanded program with additional receptacle at IU West Hospital in Avon.

Notable Achievements Won a grant for funding to equip and train all officers with Narcan. Assistant Chief Nugent won Best of Hendricks County Police Officer in 2016.

Project Life Saver Initiative Project Life Saver is a program designed to help monitor children and adults who tend to wander and may become lost. Assistant Chief Nugent is the law enforcement coordinator in partnership with Karen Hendershot with the Avon Fire Department. Half of Avon Police Department and members from other law enforcement agencies have been trained in this program. TARGET POPULATION Alzheimer s Disease Autism Dementia Downs Syndrome

Department Training Program 26 Officers completed 2,201 hours of training in 2016. Average Avon officer completed over 84.5 hours of training during 2016. Officers submitted 9 training requests that could not be approved. Sergeant Grismore currently monitors all agency training.

Equipment & Technology Upgrades Upgraded Tasers from models purchased in 2007 to the newest technology. Upgraded Cell Phone Forensics to assist in criminal investigations. **Funded by portion of unused 2016 dispatch services fees**

Social Media Expansion General Facebook Page following had 3,538 in 2015 to 6,087 in 2016. (72.046% increase) Facebook Crime Tips Page following has grown from 4,316 in 2015 to 4,986 in 2016. (15.523% increase)

Social Media Expansion Twitter following has grown from 427 in 2015 to 910 in 2016. (113.114% increase) Instagram Account has grown from 39 in 2015 to 134 in 2016. (243.589 % increase) Maintain Nextdoor social media. Expanded from 1488 in 2015 to 2448 in 2016 (64.516% increase)

Town Chamber Fundraiser Chief Stoops and Chamber Director Tom Downard partner with Avon Public Safety Foundation and Avon School Corporation. Raised over $17,000.00 for protective equipment and camera system.

Liquidation of Property Room Detective Aide Laura Finley disposed of over 1,200 items of evidence in 2016. Items disposed of included public auction of over 380 items generating $787.25 in revenue. Mrs. Finley also processed all FBI reporting forms for all 1,936 case reports completed by officers during 2016.

Collection Reports Revenue Fee schedules were amended to help recover the maximum amount of revenue to be collected under law. Collections reports for 2016 totaled $36,255.80. Total Recovered Revenue 2016 Revenue was invested into new and existing programs for the police department, field equipment, as well as the funding for the Town of Avon EAP program.
