Fairfax High School Music Department 3501 Rebel Run Fairfax, VA 22030 Dear Music Department Parents and Students: October 1, 2012 Each spring, the music department travels to a regional music competition or workshop. This year we will be traveling to the Disney Performing Arts Workshops in Orlando, Florida,. This trip is an integral part of the music department s curriculum in that it allows the students to hear ensembles from other regional areas in performance, to have their own performance evaluated by recognized adjudicators against a national standard, and to continue the process of self-evaluation and mastery. The spring music department trips have proved to foster growth in our students educationally, musically, and socially. Each student is important to his or her ensemble. It is imperative that the integrity of the ensemble be maintained in order to ensure the best educational and musical outcome for all members. The viability of each ensemble is compromised by poor instrumentation or voice representation. This will have a direct effect on our performance ability and evaluations. We are now at the point when the trip payments must begin. Therefore, we must have a commitment from parents that you intend for your child to participate. It is our hope that every member of the music department will participate in this experience and it is our goal that any student who wishes to go on the trip will be able to do so. A number of fundraisers are already in place, which are a means by which any student might pay for the trip. Any money that is raised through these fundraisers will accrue directly into each student s trip account. The Payment Schedule, Tentative Itinerary, and Statement of Intent (all students must return this form by Friday, November 2, 2012) are attached to this letter.
