purpose The purpose of this CME activity is to provide the targeted physician audience/learners, who deliver primary pediatric care, current information relevant to the clinical approach, diagnosis, and management of health-related problems common to childhood and/or adolescents. Target Audience Pediatricians, Family Physicians, Primary Care Physicians Objectives At the conclusion of the activity, participants should be able to: Interpret BMI values, order recommended screening and diagnostic tests, and implement a comprehensive treatment plan for an obese pediatric patient based on the latest evidence. Determine the appropriate laboratory investigations for a pediatric patient presenting with a suspected bleeding disorder and whether the patient s condition warrants referral to a pediatric hematologist. Apply the 2011 American Academy of Pediatrics clinical practice guidelines for the diagnosis and management of the initial urinary tract infection in febrile infants 2 to 24 month of age. Incorporate into clinical practice early intervention referral and tracking for a child with suspected developmental delay. Recognize the signs and symptoms of patients who are victims of medical child abuse and address the associated medical, psychological, social, and legal issues. Discuss the efficacy and safety of the treatment options currently available for retinopathy of prematurity. Educational Methods Lectures n Case Presentations n Point Counter Point Discussion Evaluation Evaluation by questionnaire will address program content, presentation, and possible bias. Accreditation/Credit Designation Baylor College of Medicine is accredited by the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education to provide continuing medical education for physicians. Baylor College of Medicine designates this live activity for a maximum of 17.0 AMA PRA Category 1 Credits. Physicians should claim only the credit commensurate with the extent of their participation in the activity. The presentation, Potentially Difficult Conversations with Children and Adolescents, has been designated by Baylor College of Medicine for 1.0 credit of education in medical ethics and/or professional responsibility.
