INFORMATION FOR APPLICANTS FOR THE POSITION OF: Registered Nurse ICU Part-time / Casual 1. MERCY HOSPITAL Mercy Hospital is situated on the beautiful hills overlooking Dunedin Harbour and a short drive or walk to the centre of the city. Dunedin is a city which offers an excellent lifestyle and strong focus on culture, learning, arts and sports. Mercy Hospital is renowned for its commitment to high quality patient care and for providing a quality work environment that encourages and cares for all staff. Mercy Hospital promotes a community culture with social and philanthropic events occurring within departments and hospital wide. The Hospital campus is officially smoke free with no smoking across the entire campus. 2. POSITION We currently have a part-time position available for an experienced Registered Nurse in the Cardiac Intensive Care Unit/HDU. Our ICU is now open during two weekends of each month. 3. HOURS OF WORK We have part-time / casual positions available to be worked during the opening hours of the ICU, including weekend and night shifts. 4. MEDICAL CERTIFICATE

Confirmation of the appointment of the successful applicant may be subject to the receipt of a satisfactory medical certificate or MRSA screening. The cost of the medical examination will be borne by the Hospital. 5. POLICE VETTING Part of our appointment process involves Police vetting. The main purpose of Police vetting is to protect society s most vulnerable members, including children, older people and people with special needs. It allows us to make informed decisions about potential employees working directly with these vulnerable groups of people. Part of the request for a Police Vetting check involves an identity check and you will be asked to provide the following documents: Primary ID document (e.g. passport, original birth certificate, etc.) Another form of ID (e.g. driver licence, firearms licence, 18+ card, community services card, etc.) One of the above must be photographic confirm comparison made Evidence of name change were names differ (e.g. marriage/civil union certificate, statutory declaration, etc.) Please note that Mercy Hospital is an approved agency of the New Zealand Police, with the facility to use their electronic vetting service. The terms and conditions include ensuring the correct documentation is collected, stored and disposed of as per our agreement with the police vetting service. IMMIGRATION STATUS We are also required to check that all successful applicants have the relevant permission to work in New Zealand for example by providing a birth certificate or passport with work or permanent residence visa. 7. PRESENTATION STANDARDS A high standard of presentation in personal grooming and uniform is expected at all times. The personal presentation and grooming of all employees should reflect a professional, caring image for the Hospital. To be considered for a position any tattoos will need to be able to be covered by the uniform provided or other suitable covering, depending on infection control requirements. Additionally, facial piercings (other than standard earrings) are required to be removed while at work. To be considered for a role at Mercy you

These domains are directly related to those in the Competencies for the Registered Nurse Scope of Practice (Nursing Council of New Zealand, 2005). Facilitating an emergency plan activation or adverse weather situation may require the use of a phone tree. Each staff member will have a list of phone numbers and addresses of others in their department. In the event of adverse weather or an emergency staff may be required to ring others in their department or assist each other with transport. 6

PERSON SPECIFICATION Qualifications Registration with the Nursing Council of New Zealand, pursuant to the Nurses Act 1977, as a Registered Nurse and hold a current practising certificate. Knowledge & Experience Ability to work effectively in a team and/or individually Ability to deal with unexpected situations and crises while maintaining a therapeutic and professional manner Specific Skills and Requirements Relevant to Area A relevant postgraduate RN qualification with a minimum of two years clinical experience in a surgical/oncology ward is desirable Must have participated in a PDRP programme and have a portfolio when employed or undertake to submit a portfolio within 6 months of commencing work at Mercy All theatre/oncology staff a minimum of level 4 CPR For all ward/dsu staff a minimum of level 5 CPR For Clinical/Shift coordinators/night staff /PACU/ICU/ Day Stay staff of level 6 CPR To complete relevant competencies for area of work within 6 months of commencing employment at Mercy e.g arterial line, CVC line, epidural certification, for oncology experience with advanced IV practice to include, ability to cannulate, care of a PICC line and portacath In addition for Intensive Care Unit/ PACU/Oncology/ Day Stay Unit Previous experience in ICU/PACU/Oncology is desirable For ICU to have completed an ICU or similar course or commitment to complete within 6 months of employment. For Oncology appropriate and current chemotherapy certification, ability to manage emergency situations as they relate to oncology practice and a sound knowledge of cytotoxic therapy and associated patient care In addition for Day Stay Facility Day stay/ endoscopy experience is desirable. Level 6 CPR, experience with IV cannulation, and moderate sedation prior to starting or obtained within 6 months Day staff may be expected to work a rotation into the endoscopy procedure room. In addition for Theatre Educator Ability and experience in planning, organising, delivering and evaluating educational opportunities. Comprehensive understanding of nursing competency requirements and ability to ensure nursing staff are able to maintain and demonstrate these. 8
