In1987whentheRonaldMcDonaldHouse(TheHouseThatLoveBuilt)wasbuilt ingreenvillenc,ecamembersfinishedoneoftheroomsatacostof$5,000.00 andpledgedanother$5,000.00in1998torefurnishtheroom. WhenGoldsboroturned150yearsoldin1997theassociationdonated150books tosixwaynecountyschoolstargetinggrades2through8toassistwithmeeting thestateabcrequirementforreading. In1999ECAmembersdonated12handmadebirdhouseswithcarvedbirdsto decoratetheannualnationalchristmastreeasarequestfromnorthcarolina s firstlady,mrs.carolynhunt. EachyearECAmembersdonatetoSamaritanPurse(ThePowerofaSimpleGift) byfillingshoeboxes.theseshoeboxesarefilledwithschoolsupplies,toys, hygienearticles,candies,etc.forchildrenaroundtheworldtosharetheloveof JesusChristandtobringthemjoyandhappinessatChristmas. The Bizzy Bees and the Grape Creek Clubs have offered much encouragement and support for the newest additions in our county, Unaka and TexanaClubs. Grape Creek ECA is planning to hold a workshop on making the Cathedral Windowsquiltpattern.MadelynRose,whowonfirstplaceforherbeautifulquilt usingthispatternduringthedistrictculturalartscontestandsecondplaceatthe statemeetinglastyear,willbedemonstratingthetechnique.
