LIBRARY The MLC Library is open during the summer from 8:00-4:30 Monday-Friday. Please see a librarian for any questions about using library resources, or consult the library's website: http://mlc-wels.edu/library. MLC ID CARD If you will be checking books out of the MLC library, you will need an MLC ID card. Please stop by the Network Services Office to get your new card. Please bring a picture ID card when you stop by with computer- or phone-related questions and needs. Or use the blue direct-line phones in the computer labs or dorms (just pick up the phone, no number to dial). Or call Ext.100 from on-campus phones or 507-233-9100. Information concerning Network Services is also available online; go to MLC Home and click Tech Support on the bottom bar. You may also email support@mlc-wels.edu or visit mlc-wels.edu/support to enter a ticket into the support system for timely attention and assistance. Computer Lab Locations Computer labs are found in the dormitories, the second floor of Old Main, the lower level of the library, and outside the science area on the second floor of the WCC. Wireless access is available in the dorm lobbies and the library. The Network Guest Code for access is sprinter. You can also log in using your MLC username and password. Logging onto the Network With the computer on and Windows 7 loaded, the Log on to Novell Network message area appears. In the Username box, type your login user name. Use the first six letters of your last name (or your full last name if there are six or fewer) plus your first initial plus your middle initial. The username is all lowercase letters. Tab to the MLC account Password box or click in it with the mouse (but don't press Enter). Type in your network password. Initial network passwords are set to the first 4 characters of your last name (capitalize the first letter) followed by the last 4 digits of your social security number. (The initial password will only work the very first time that you log in to your account. If you have forgotten your password, please follow the instructions below to reset your password.) Press the Enter key or click the arrow button. Your initial password should be expired; if not, please let us know. For security reasons, your password is set to expire every 6 months. The computer provides several opportunities to change the password. Change the password immediately, lest it expire and lock you out of the computer. If you get locked out, or if you forget your password, go to Network Services (WCC 293) with your ID card. You can also send in a support ticket to have your password reset. 6

Saving on the MLC Network Almost everyone is familiar with saving documents. What you need to know is where you should save your documents on the MLC Network so that you can get at your work from any campus computer and so that your work is automatically backed up for you on a nightly basis. Most files saved by MLC faculty and students may be saved to the WINDATA (\\ACAD\VOL2\USERS\..., also called the I: drive. Caution: If you are working on a lab computer and you save to the C: drive (local hard drive), your work will be lost once the computer is turned off. Once you have selected the WINDATA, or I: drive, you can select a particular folder to store your file in; you can create a new folder; or you can save directly to the I:\drive outside of any folders. Warning: When a document is saved to the C: drive rather than the Network, it can be retrieved only at the computer at which you worked. You cannot go to another computer to retrieve it as you can when you save the document to the Network. ALSO, anything saved to the C: drive is automatically deleted when you log off the computer. That s why it is important to save your documents to the I: drive. Documents can also be saved in Google drive, which is a feature of your MLC Google Account. Please visit Network Services if you need help with the this process. Log Off or Shut Down Log Off if you think another person will use the computer soon; otherwise Shut Down the computer. Additional Warning: If you wish to save work at the end of the summer school session, remove it from your account before leaving campus. The computers in Network Services have CD burners for you to save your summer school work. Most computers throughout the campus also have flash drive access. All summer school accounts are deleted when summer school ends. 7
