Fitchburg Recreation Department Overview The Parks and Recreation office under the control of the Board of Park Commissioners, serves as the manager of all public parks, playgrounds, and recreational programs the City of Fitchburg offers through its control. Facilities are available for all leagues and patrons that wish to use them, pending approval by the Board of Park Commissioners, through the Recreation Director. Registration Registrations are done on a first come, first serve basis with preference given to Fitchburg residents. The Recreation Department reserves the right to cap the registration for any program based on availability of personnel, facilities, or any other factor affecting the program. Download your forms and mail them to 301 Broad ST, Fitchburg, MA 01420 Online: Use our online registration at www.fitchburgma.gov/activities All Registration Forms and Information can be found on our website at www.fitchburgma.gov/356 All registrations are non-refundable, unless: The Recreation Department cancels the program. You mailed in a registration and no openings exist You request to withdraw from a program in sufficient time that a replacement can be found and no costs have been incurred because of you. Inclement Weather All cancellations are on the website, www.fitchburgma.gov/354. Also, sign up online for our programming updates notification. It is our policy that if Fitchburg Public Schools close due to weather related issues, our programs will also be cancelled. Volunteer Opportunities Fitchburg Recreation depends greatly on volunteers to support all of our programs and special events. If you are interested in volunteering, there are a variety of programs and activities looking for support. Contact us for openings. Thanks to all who have already given their time and energy! 3 Spring/Summer 2017 Parks Use & Vending Field/Park One Time Use Procedure Individuals looking to reserve any park, field or facility in the Fitchburg Parks must submit a request form. Permits are issued following review by the Recreation Director and may require the Board of Park Commissioner approval. Request forms can be found on the Parks & Recreation website. Field/Park Seasonal Use Procedure: Youth sports leagues, youth groups, schools, leagues, etc., looking to reserve any field, park or facility in the Fitchburg Parks must submit a seasonal request form. Permits are issued following review by the Recreation Director and may require the Board of Park Commissioner approval. Seasonal use permits must be requested each year. Request forms can be found on the Parks and Recreation website. Field & Park Fees There are a few parks within the City of Fitchburg that have a cost associated with the permit for usage. Riverfront Park is $100.00 per day Coggshall Stonehouse and Gazebo are $25.oo to reserve plus $25 an hour. Vendor Permits Any persons wishing to sell food in any City of Fitchburg park, playground, field or facility must obtain a permit from the Board of Park Commissioners, through the Recreation Department and secure a permit for the year. There is a $25.00 annual application fee. www.fitchburgma.gov 4

Henry F. Coggshall Memorial Stonehouse The Henry F. Coggshall Memorial Stonehouse located in scenic Coggshall Park is a great location for weddings, birthday parties, family get-togethers, or any occasion. The Stonehouse is available for rental on a first come fist serve basis. Reservations are booked in four hour increments, with reservation times according to park hours. Reservations are available online at www.fitchburgma.gov/354 or in the Recreation Office at 301 Broad Street, Fitchburg. There is a $25.00 reservation fee required at the time of your request for reservation, and a $25 hourly usage fee for reserving the Stonehouse. Coggshall Gazebo Rentals Looking to have an outdoor wedding ceremony, wedding pictures, or family photos by the water, what better place than the Gazebo in Coggshall Park. The Gazebo is reserved on a first come first serve basis. Reservations are available online at www.fitchburgma.gov/354 or in the Recreation Office at 301 Broad Street, Fitchburg. There is a $25 an hour reservation fee with a minimum one hour reservation. 5 Spring/Summer 2017 Spring Youth Programs Fitchburg Flag Football Ages: 7-13 Dates: Sundays, April 9 June 18 Times: 12:00 PM-5:00 PM Where: TBD Cost: $50 Registration: Extended through March 31st In Partnership with the North Central Massachusetts Police Athletic League, we are pleased to announce the Fitchburg Flag Football Youth League for boys and girls ages 7-17. This is a recreational flag football league following the provisions of the NFL Flag program through USA Football. Participants will play two games a week. Local Organization Programming Fitchburg Youth Soccer In-Town League Ages: 4-7 Dates: April 22, 2017 June 17, 2017 Where: Coolidge Park & Moran Field Cost: $70 Registration: Online at www.fitchburgyouthsoccer.org All children welcome from Fitchburg and the surrounding communities for the In-Town league. The In-Town League is recreational, instructional, and non-outcome based. Fitchburg Youth Soccer Travel League Ages: 7-13 Dates: April 1, 2017 Late June Where: Coolidge Park & Moran Field Cost: $90 Registration: Online at www.fitchburgyouthsoccer.org Participants must live in Fitchburg or attend a Fitchburg school or live in a town which does not have a team in your division for you to play. www.fitchburgma.gov 6

Fitchburg Youth Street Hockey Ages: 4-16 Dates: Mid-April through Late June Where: Coolidge Park Cost: $90 Registration: Opens Mid March Check out www.fitchburgstreethockey.com for details Participants join our safe and fun environment where children can learn basic street hockey skills and develop advanced talent. The Fitchburg Street Hockey League is a non-profit organization which has been successfully run by volunteers for over thirty years. Fitchburg Youth Baseball Tee-Ball Ages: 4-6 Coed Dates: Spring 2017 Where: TBD Cost: $75 Registration: Now Open. Register at www.fitchburgyouthbaseball.com Ballplayers ages 4-6 learn hitting and fielding fundamentals in a supportive team environment. Young athletes hit the ball from a batting tee which is height-adjusted for a level swing, batting in order through the line-up for the entire game. The primary goal is to begin to instruct young players in the fundamentals of baseball in a supportive team environment. Fitchburg Youth Baseball Rookie League Ages: 7-8 Coed Dates: Spring 2017 Where: TBD Cost: $75 Registration: Now Open. Register at www.fitchburgyouthbaseball.com This division is Coach Pitched to allow for more hittable balls at the plate and more action in the field. Fear of actually being hit by a pitched ball is diminished. 7 Spring/Summer 2017 Fitchburg Youth Baseball Minor League Ages: 9-10 Coed Dates: Spring 2017 Where: TBD Cost: $100 Registration: Enquire at www.fitchburgyouthbaseball.com Players build and refine their fundamental skills while beginning to understand game strategy and teamwork. Minors is made up of 2 divisions North and South. Fitchburg Youth Baseball Babe Ruth League Ages: 13-16 Coed Dates: Spring 2017 Where: TBD Cost: $150 Registration: Inquire at www.fitchburgyouthbaseball.com The Fitchburg Babe Ruth program consists of two divisions based upon age level: 13/14 and 15/16. Police Athletic League Small Ball Youth Basketball Ages: 4-9 Dates: Early April Where: Coolidge Park Cost: $30 Registration: March 15 27, 2017 Small Ball is a fun, co-ed program that introduces basketball, team play and sportsmanship to young players. Players in the pre-k through 4th grade age groups will develop these specific skills in the team sport of basketball. The season begins with the development of fundamental skills. Players learn quickly and are soon placed into game situations. A basketball is provided to each player so that he/she can work on their skills at home. Spring Teen Programs Coed Teen Dodgeball League Ages: 14-18 (Must be in High School or Equivalent) Dates: April 26, 2017-May 31, 2017 Where: Memorial Middle School Registration: March 15, 2017-April 13, 2017 Min. 6 teams required to run the league. AARP Smart Driver Safety Course Ages: 50+ Dates: April 4, 2017 Where: Fitchburg Senior Center Cost: $20/$15 for AARP Members Registration: Available now at the Fitchburg Senior Center Max. 20 Participants Cost: $75 team Make a team and join us for a six week season of traditional dodgeball in the Memorial Middle School Gymnasium. Teams consist of 6 players a maximum of 4 additional subs. Spring Adult Programs The AARP Smart Driver Course offered by AARP Driver Safety is the nation's largest driver safety course and is designed especially for drivers age 50 and older. By taking the AARP Smart Driver Course attendees are taught the current rules of the road, defensive driving techniques and how to operate a vehicle more safely in today's increasingly challenging driving environment. You may be eligible to receive a multi-year auto insurance discount upon completing the course (consult your insurance agent for details). AARP membership is not required to take the course and there are no tests to pass. Coed Adult Dodgeball League Ages: 18+ Dates: April 26, 2017-May 31, 2017 Where: Memorial Middle School Registration: March 15, 2017-April 13, 2017 Min. 6 teams required to run the league. Star Wars Night Ages: All Dates: May 4, 2017 Time: 5:30 PM-8:00 PM Where: Fitchburg Public Library In a library not that far away. Star Wars Night! Join us at the Fitchburg Public Library for space themed games, arts, crafts and family fun. A themed movie will be screened! Brought to you by the Fitchburg Recreation Department and the Fitchburg Youth Library. Full Moon Hike Ages: All Dates: May 10, 2017 Time: 7:30 PM Cost: Free! Where: Coggshall Park (Meet at the Knights of Columbus) Registration Required! Opens April 20, 2017 Join the Fitchburg Recreation Department and The Board of Park Commissioners as the Full Moon rises over historic Coggshall Park. Our hike will be followed by snacks in the Henry F. Coggshall Memorial Stone House. Summer Youth Programs Youth Kickball League Ages: 7-12 Divisions: 2-4th Grade Division Times: 5:00 PM-8:00 PM 5-6th Grade Division Dates: Thursdays, June 22, 2017-July 27, 2017 Where: Coolidge Park Cost: $25 Registration: April 20, 2017-June 8, 2017 Minimum 4 teams needed per division Kickball is all about the FUN! Kids kick, catch, throw and dodge an 8" playground ball, anyone can join in and have a great time, regardless of ability or experience! The season consists of five scheduled league games and will conclude with an end of season cook-out and Kids vs. Parents game. 13 Spring/Summer 2017 Summer Playground Program Ages: Under 18 Dates: Mon-Fri, July 5, 2017-August 18, 2017 Times: 9:30 AM-2:30 PM Cost: Free Registration: April 20, 2017-July 5, 2017 Locations: Coggshall Park Coolidge Park Crocker Playground Green Street Playground This program is open to children under the Parkhill Park age of 18; if a child is under the age of 5 they must be accompanied by and adult. The program runs Monday Friday from 9:30am 2:00pm, weather permitting.. Several field trips are taken throughout the summer. Flyers will be distributed to all Fitchburg Public schools mid May. Summer Nutrition Program The Fitchburg Recreation Department is participating in the Summer Food Service Program the provides meals to children. Meals will be provided to all children without charge and are the same for all children regardless of race, color, national origin, sex, age, or disability, and there will be no discrimination in the course of meal service. Meals will be provided at the sites Mon-Fri from 11:00 AM- 12:00PM: Coggshall Park, Coolidge Park, Crocker Playground, Green Street Playground and Parkhill Park. Interested participants are asked to check in at the park with the Playground Staff prior to 10:00am to be reserved a meal. At this time the Recreation Department cannot serve meals to residents over the age of 17. All meals must be consumed at the playground before leaving. www.fitchburgma.gov 14

Joubert Memorial Skate Park Cost: Free! Registration: April 20, 2017-July 3, 2017 Max. 35 participants per session Interested in learning how to skateboard or want to better you skateboarding skills? The Ryan C. Joubert Skateboarding Clinic is the perfect place! Fitchburg Recreation Instructional Basketball Ages: 3-5 Dates: July 10, 2017-August 18, 2017 Times: TBD Where: TBD Cost: $35 Registration: April 20, 2017-June 20, 2017 Min. 32 Participants needed to run the program This co-ed program introduces basketball, team play and sportsmanship to young players. $35 Registration includes 6 week program, a t-shirt and a basketball! All sessions will be on weekdays in a park. Summer Youth Biddy League Ages: 6-13 Divisions: Painting Classes with Art on the Rocks Ages: 7-11 Sessions: July 10, 2017 July 24, 2017 August 7, 2017 August 21, 2017 Times: 9:00 AM-11:00 AM Where: Art on the Rocks studio Cost: $25 Registration: April 20, 2017 1 week prior to session Max. 20 Participants 1-2 Grade 3-5 Grade 6-8 Grade Dates: July 10, 2017-August 24, 2017 Times: TBD Where: TBD Cost: $50 Registration: April 20, 2017-June 20, 2017 A min. of 4 teams per divisions needed/max. 8 teams The Program runs from the second week of July through the end of August. Registration includes a T-Shirt, one game and one practice a week. Practices and Games will occur on regularly scheduled weekdays. A full schedule of game and practice times will be available following tryouts. All registered participants are guaranteed to play. Tryouts are designed to create balanced and fair teams. The park is open to any and all patrons that wish to use it. There are water attendants on duty at all times while the park is open. Course includes: Lifeguard Training for traditional pools, CPR/ AED for the Professional Rescuer, and Standard First Aid. Lifeguard candidates must be 15 years of age, able to demonstrate 300-yards continuous swim, using the front crawl and breaststroke, tread water for 2-minutes without using arms, and able to retrieve a 10-lb weight from 7-feet of water, then swim 20-yards, with legs only.
