COMMUNITY EDUCATION SEXUAL HEALTH TRAINING PROGRAMME OUR SERVICE MISSION STATEMENT:- Vision of the Service Good sexual health is an important aspect of health and wellbeing and is vital that people have the information, confidence and access to quality services in order to seek appropriate care and make choices that are right for them. This helps people to develop positive relationships and enables them to protect themselves and their partners from infections and unintended pregnancy The service aims to promote a positive attitude towards sexual health through appropriate dialogue with all members of the community so people are empowered to make informed choices about their sexual and reproductive health. The Community Education Sexual Health Team aims to promote the service vision through the provision of equitable, effective and accessible Sexual Health Education for all.. The Community Education Sexual Health Team The Community Education Sexual Health Team (CESH Team) comprises of four expert teams with a wide range of clinical and non-clinical experience in all areas of sexual and reproductive health: The Community Sexual Health Development Team Sexual Health in Primary Care Team Community Sexual Health Advising Team Community Contraception & Sexual Health Team The Community Sexual Health Development Leads in Burnley, Pendle, Rossendale and Hyndburn and Ribble Valley The service provides intelligence around Sexual Health including Teenage Conceptions, Sexually Transmitted Infections (STIs), and risk taking behaviour. The team gathers and provides current localised data which can then inform of gaps in service, can enable targeted sessions to be delivered to young, vulnerable and those deemed as unseen and can enable the development of appropriate and future direction of services. The service is delivered in response to wider PCT Public Health priorities set by NHS East Lancashire and Lancashire County Council on behalf of the local population. Particular emphasis is placed on early intervention and prevention, positive sexual health and relationships, promotion and harm reduction messages in relation to risk taking behaviours. Partners include: Primary Care services, Brook Advisory Service, Gynaecology, Obstetrics, Oncology and TOP services, Psychosexual therapy, GP s and practice staff, Genito-Urinary (GUM), Children s Services, Adult Social Care, substance misuse services, voluntary, community and independent sectors. The team also contribute to the chlamydia screening programmes. The team develop and provide training and resources about Sexual Health including Teenage Conceptions, STIs, and Risk Taking Behaviour in order to enable stakeholders to take shared responsibility for shared targets and outcomes. The Sexual Health in Primary Care Team The Sexual Health in Primary Care Team supports GP practices and the wider primary care team to provide essential sexual health services as identified within Level 1 of the National Strategy for Sexual Health and HIV by offering a series of sexual health workshops and clinical supervision for individual practices. The team also provides training for Contraceptive and Sexual Health Services (CaSH), enabling staff to be responsive to wider sexual health priorities and deliver services to Level 1 standards as a minimum. Further training offered includes basic contraception and sexual health awareness, focused on Public Health priorities and local services with wider community health services and partner agencies. The Community Sexual Health Advising Team The Sexual Health Advising Team provide primary, secondary and tertiary prevention of sexually transmitted infections through face-to-face work with people in the Genitourinary Medicine Clinic (GUM) within East Lancashire, the community, the hospital wards, contraceptive and sexual health clinics, antenatal and termination of pregnancy (TOP) services, drug services, mental health services and safeguarding services via integrated care pathways. The Sexual Health Advisors support the education and training in a variety of clinical and non-clinical settings to promote an awareness of sexual health, including blood borne viruses, to service users. The team also provides specialist nursing/ counselling services on blood borne viruses, sexual health and support with sexual identity, sexual assault and psychosexual issues. They aim to maximise sexual health well-being and reduce inequalities in sexual health. Public health is a key priority within the team coordinating partner notification/ contact tracing to reduce the asymptomatic burden of disease in the community. Community Contraception and Sexual Health Team (Blackburn with Darwen) The Community Contraception and Sexual Health team promote a positive attitude towards sexual health within Blackburn with Darwen. They promote all aspects of CaSH services through training and awareness raising sessions. The training programme incorporates a local perspective of Sexual Health information, Do you know your choices campaign? tool kit training, how to effectively deliver a condom distribution scheme, Wrapped and a half day training around HIV and AIDS awareness. The team also operates the Condom Distribution Scheme (CDS) that provides free condoms, correct and consistent sexual health information and advice to everyone living within Blackburn with Darwen. Community Contraception and Sexual Health Team The Community Contraception and Sexual Health team promote a positive attitude towards sexual health within Blackburn with Darwen. They promote all aspects of CaSH services through training and awareness raising sessions. The training programme incorporates a local perspective of Sexual health information, Do you know your choices campaign? tool kit training, how to effectively deliver a condom distribution scheme, Wrapped and a half day training around HIV and AIDS awareness. Public Health has included people presenting with HIV at a late stage of infection as of its indicators within the Public Health Outcomes framework. The advice around consistent condom use, reducing the number of sexual partners and not sharing injecting equipment still remains pertinent today Summary This half day session provides basic information on HIV, new treatments and the long term implication of living with the disease. The Community Sexual Health Development Leads in Burnley, Pendle, Rossendale and Hyndburn and Ribble Valley The service provides intelligence around Sexual Health including Teenage Conceptions, Sexually Transmitted Infections (STIs), and risk taking behaviour. The team gathers and provides current localised data which can then inform of gaps in service, can enable targeted sessions to be delivered to young, vulnerable and those deemed as unseen and can enable the development of appropriate and future direction of services. The service is delivered in response to wider PCT Public Health priorities set by NHS East Lancashire and Lancashire County Council on behalf of the local population. Particular emphasis is placed on early intervention and prevention, positive sexual health and relationships, promotion and harm reduction messages in relation to risk taking behaviours. Partners include: Primary Care services, Brook Advisory Service, Gynaecology, Obstetrics, Oncology and TOP services, Psychosexual therapy, GP s and practice staff, Genito-Urinary (GUM), Children s Services, Adult Social Care, substance misuse services, voluntary, community and independent sectors. The team also contribute to the chlamydia screening programmes. The team develop and provide training and resources about Sexual Health including Teenage Conceptions, STIs, and Risk Taking Behaviour in order to enable stakeholders to take shared responsibility for shared targets and outcomes. They also provide specialist support and expertise to those agencies in need of signposting, information and advice on issues related to young people, sexual health and risk taking behaviour.
