Statement of Need: As moves forward with providing state of the art medical care in Westchester County, changes in cardiac care are being advanced to ensure that our community and its patients have access to these new techniques. Cardiovascular disease continues to be the leading cause of death among americans with over 800,000 deaths each year on average from Stroke. This symposium will focus on stroke management: signs, symptoms and treatments including early recognition of critical care situations and application of the Rapid Response approach. Strategies for managing different levels of stroke rehabilitation, acute, sub-acute and outpatient will be explored. Lastly, panel discussion will engage attendees in a review of current and best practices, and define new treatments available in the management of stroke patients. Program Objectives: This Stroke symposium is intended to improve patient care, safety and outcomes. At the conclusion of the symposium participants should be able to: RECOGNIZE patients with potential acute stroke; identify and collect information for rapid assessment and management planning. REVIEW the importance of rapid stroke assessment and describe the impact on patient outcomes. HIGHLIGHT recent advances in acute stroke management and management options. IDENTIFY new clinical trial programs for endovascular stroke patient therapy. COMPARE and contrast the levels of stroke rehabilitation: acute, sub-acute and outpatient rehabilitation Target Audience: EMS Personnel, MD s, PA s NP s, RN s, and case managers within the specialties of neurology, family practice and emergency medicine. CME Accreditation: North Shore-LIJ Health System is accredited by the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education to provide Continuing Medical Education for physicians. Credit Designation: North Shore-LIJ Health System designates this Continuing Medical Education activity for a maximum of 3.0 AMA PRA Category 1 Credits.
