"Enter to Learn, Depart to Serve" Dr. Jean L. Jones, Principal October 25, 2016 TO: FROM: SUBJECT: Board of Education, Superintendent and Cabinet Vanessa Cruz, ASB President Student Board Repmt Board President Ms. Renteria, Members of the Board of Education, Superintendent Paul Gothold, Lynwood Unified School District officials, fellow students, friends, and family members. Good evening. My name is Vanessa Cruz, and I am tbe Associated Student Body President at Lynwood Community Adult School. On Thursday, October 13, 2016, the Adult School hosted its first ever Halloween themed Back To School Night Community Event at tbe Atlantic site. This event attracted over 250 community members. This evening would offer a unique opportunity for student's children as they could visit different tables to see what their parents were learning and to check on their parent's progress. After taking care of the serious business of children/teacher conferences, tbe children participated in a costume contest and played a variety of fun and spooky games. The kids ended the night by Trick or Treating through the different academic depattments. During the event, there were many questions about ow programs from community members who live near the Atlantic site but only thought we were open during the day. They were delighted to know we offered tbe same programs and courses during the evening at tbe Imperial (LHS) site. Finally, thanks to tbe food truck that remained busy an hour after the event was over. In October, the Adult School received a report from Pearson Vue which stated that the Adult School had tested over 100 examinees for the month of September. That means that since August 2016, tbe Adult School has tested over 210 examinees in its Pearson Vue computer lab.. In addition to Pearson Vue testing, tbe Adult School offers the HiSET which is also recognized by the California Depattment of Education as being equivalent to a High School Diploma. The HiSET is a paper/pencil version of the High School Equivalency exam and is offered by the Adult School once a month. This concludes the Lynwood Adult School Student Board Report.
