Kelleen Flaherty, MS, MWC Publishing has come a long way, from the good old days when Medline was a paid subscription and reading papers required actually getting hold of a paper journal or a reprint. Medical writers are fortunate to have such a staggering wealth of information on demand, at our fingertips, 24/7 and often at no cost. But what does no cost actually cost? Learn how to: Identify the benefits of open access Distinguish between legitimate open-access journals and predatory ones Recognize the hazards and caveats associated with predatory open access Comprehend the explosion of the predatory open-access industry and its sequelae, such as predatory conferences 9.
