Purpose of the role : To contribute to the maintenance of a safe environment for all persons and property on the Regional Forensic Psychiatry Services site by the provision of security services. KEY TASKS Prevent or minimise threat to the safety of all persons and property on the Regional Forensic Psychiatry Service site. EXPECTED OUTCOMES Deter, detect and respond to threats posed by accidents, human behavior, theft, burglary, damage, leaks, spillage, contamination, flood, fire or disasters and any other incident. Ensure confidentiality of information in line with WDHB policy and legal enactments. Liaise with staff and establish lines of communication. Instruct, educate and enforce policies and protocols relating to security, safety and general wellbeing of the company, its staff and clientele Operate security systems as required Operate Galagher Command Centre at approved level Liaise with Occupational Health and Safety Staff, Fire, Policies and disaster organisations in the identification and dealing with relevant hazards Patrolling buildings, car parks and grounds of the Regional Forensic Psychiatry Services to ensure a safe environment for staff, visitors and clients. Operate CCTV system at approved level Operate other security systems as required Attend briefings, lectures, educational programs and exercises relating to security and risk situations as directed. Identifying and reporting hazards, damage and incidents. Work rostered shifts as required over a 24 hour period. Record and report incidents as directed. Respond to alarms, alerts and requests by staff or visitors promptly. Take in to safekeeping and report found property, record and report lost property. Secure doors, windows and apertures as directed. Maintain all reports, logs and written communications in a neat and orderly fashion. Wear uniform as required and directed by the WDHB Regional Forensic Psychiatry Service. Maintain issued equipment and report faults promptly. Undertake training and study courses as required by WDHB Regional Forensic Psychiatry Services. Undertake and perform site instructions issued and updated as required by WDHB Regional Forensic Psychiatry Services. KEY TASKS EXPECTED OUTCOMES Patrol the grounds and buildings of the Regional Forensic Psychiatry Service and report any incidents via the appropriate processes. Statutory & Treaty of Waitangi obligations Ensures the professional and political integrity of WDHB by carrying out all functions in compliance of the Treaty of Waitangi and by demonstrating a serious commitment to keeping the treaty alive. PERSON SPECIFICATION Minimum Preferred Qualification NZ National Certificates in Security Has certificate of approval to operate as a Security Officer Experience 12 months experience as a Security Officer. Appropriate life skills and relevant experience More than 12 months experience as a Security Officer, with references Skills/Knowledge/Behaviour Clean and current NZ driver s license, proof required. Ability to understand multi-cultural customs and issues. Ability to communicate clearly and to understand and execute instructions. Ability to write clear incident reports, make written statements and keep registers and records. Ability to deal with routine matters competently and in accordance with standard procedures and instructions. Identify situations where help is required and to know who or where to obtain help promptly. Courteous, considerate, helpful, tactful and efficient in dealing with others and to be decisive and firm when this is required. Be alert at all times on duty with attention to detail and awareness of any security risk situations. Exercise self-discipline and appropriate judgment in relation to others. Maintain a smart appearance at all times, clean and neatly dressed in accordance with the uniform specifications at WDHB. Jewelry and accessories to be discreet. A good degree of physical fitness is Ability to operate modern security technology, ie: cameras, radios, pagers, electronic locking apparatus and basic computer systems.
