TP 02/2006T FORUM ON INTERNATIONAL TRADE IN PROFESSIONAL SERVICES IN APEC ECONOMIES, 14-17 17 AUGUST 2006 OBJECTIVES To provide networking opportunities among professional service providers in the APEC economies, and To promote business collaborations through better understanding of the latest practices by professional service providers. 1

BRIEF INFORMATION ON PROJECT Project Title : Forum on International Trade in Professional Services in APEC Economies Methodology : 4-days Date : 14-17 August 2006 Venue : Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia PARTICIPANT By APEC economies: Malaysia, Singapore, Indonesia, Viet Nam, Republic of Korea, Taiwan, Japan, United States of America, Australia, and Hong Kong. 2

PARTICIPANT Category of participants: Private companies, Trade associations, Trade Promotion Organisations, and Government agencies. PARTICIPANT Profile of participants: Construction firms, Testing laboratories, Inspection and certification bodies, Architecture firms, Surveying firms, ICT consultancy firms, ICT solution providers, E-marketing and networking firms, Software design firms, Firms carry out back office operation, and Web and multimedia design firms. 3

1. Seminar presentations on: Marketing of professional services in APEC economies ICT experience. Brand building for professional services a case study. The impact of recent medical advances on the delivery of health services in APEC economies. Health and related support management services the Malaysian case. Collaborative linkages with SMEs in building professional services within APEC. The future of engineering services in APEC economies. Gaining a competitive edge through applying project management best practices. 4

2. Business Meeting Initiating business collaboration, and seeking business partners in the professional services area. Organised 38 business meetings and one networking session. 6

3. Site visit Ampang Puteri Specialist Hospital, Multimedia Development Corporation (MDeC), and Putrajaya. EVALUATION 94 per cent of the participants felt that the Forum had given them greater awareness and better understanding on professional services in APEC economies. 90 per cent of the participants view that the Forum had provided them with the avenue for networking with local and foreign professional service providers. 7

EVALUATION 67 per cent of the participants felt that they had established good contact through their participation in the Forum, while 12 per cent had opined excellent opportunities to make contacts with other participants. 66 per cent managed to identify potential business partners. EVALUATION 30 per cent of the participants rated that the organisation of the Forum as excellent, while 61 per cent felt it was good. 72 per cent agreed that all speakers delivered good presentations. 8

EVALUATION CONCLUSION The Forum had created greater awareness on the services offered by the professional service providers from Malaysia and APEC economies. 9
