DETAILED LISTING ACADEMIC AWARDS Christine Schmid Memorial Scholarship Value: $500 This scholarship will be awarded to a grade 12 student who will be pursuing post-secondary studies in the areas of Education, Art and/or French. The scholarship recipient will show: a) service to the community, school and fellow students; b) participation in community activities and extra-curricular school activities; c) a caring attitude towards others. Creative Music Award Value: $200 Awarded to a grade 12 General Music or Rock & Pop student who demonstrates outstanding: a) leadership and commitment; b) performance and technical skills; c) creativity. Elk Island Teachers Local No. 28 School Scholarship - (Required: separate application, essay, and two reference letters) Value: $500 The Elk Island Local of the Alberta Teachers Association awards two annual scholarships of $250 or one scholarship of $500 to: a) a child of an Elk Island Teacher who is entering the Faculty of Education in a credited institution and who has demonstrated a high level of achievement; b) a child of a non-elk Island Teacher who is entering the Faculty of Education in a credited institution and who has demonstrated a high level of achievement; c) a grade 12 student who is entering the Faculty of Education in a credited institution who has demonstrated a high level of achievement. The recipient for this award is selected by Elk Island Teachers Local No. 28 s selection committee. 4
Icon Scholarship Value: $1,200 Awarded to a student who consistently: a) maintains solid academics; b) is actively involved in a variety of school community activities; c) contributes to the positive environment of the school. Inter Pipeline Discovery Award - (Required: separate application plus a paragraph stating financial difficulty) Value: $2,000 The Discovery Award program provides bursaries to grade 12 students who have financial difficulties and want to pursue a post-secondary education in an industry related field. Industry related programs include: Accounting, Business, Finance, Investor Relations, Machinist, Welder and Millwright Apprenticeships, Public/Community Relations, Automated Systems Engineering Technology, Engineering or Engineering Technology, Industrial Instrumentation Technology, Instrument Mechanic, Process Operations, Welding or Engineering Technology. Patricia Gau Science Scholarship Value: $500 Awarded to a grade 12 student who plans to enroll in a post-secondary program in Science or Science related field. The scholarship recipient will: a) not be receiving another scholarship; b) have demonstrated an exemplary attitude, effort and a genuine enthusiasm for science; c) have achieved a satisfactory academic standing in science. 5
Signature Vending Award for Performing Arts Value: $300 Awarded by Heritage Enterprises to a grade 12 Drama 30 or Musical Theatre 35 student who demonstrates outstanding: a) dramatic, movement and vocal skills; b) effort, concentration and commitment in class and towards their classmates; c) strong leadership qualities and attributes of an effective team player. Signature Vending Award for Visual Arts Value: $300 Awarded by Heritage Enterprises to a grade 12 Art 30 or Communication Technology (advanced level) student who demonstrates outstanding: a) ability in drawing, painting, designing, printmaking, sculpting and/or photography; b) effort in the Art or Communication Technology (advanced level) program for at least two years; c) leadership in the program. LEADERSHIP/CITIZENSHIP AWARDS/ FINANCIAL NEED Premier s Citizenship Award - (Required: separate application and record of accomplishments chart) Value: Plaque & Letter The Premier s Citizenship Award is awarded annually to a grade 12 student who has displayed outstanding characteristics in: a) citizenship; b) leadership; c) community service and/or engagement in volunteer work; d) shows initiative; e) has a positive impact in the school community. Applications for this award are narrowed down to one student, who is selected at the school level by the selection committee. The name selected is given to a government selection committee for further review and award selection. 6
Sherwood Park Elks Scholarship - (Required: separate application - seven questions to be answered) Value: $400 The Sherwood Park Elks award two scholarships to grade 12 students in Sherwood Park who will be pursuing post-secondary studies. The students should be involved in school and/or community activities and require financial assistance. Sherwood Park Lions Breakfast Club Community Service Award Value: $400 The Sherwood Park Lions Breakfast Club awards an annual scholarship to a grade 12 student who has contributed to the social well-being of the community and school. CTS AWARDS Battle of the Chefs Value: $250 This scholarship is awarded to students who have been accepted into a Canadian post-secondary institution in a first year culinary program. The recipient must be a graduating student who displays outstanding: a) achievement in food and/or culinary courses; b) involvement and leadership in the program. Merit Contractors CTS Construction Award Value: $300 This scholarship is awarded to encourage students to achieve excellence in construction-related courses offered in Alberta High Schools. The recipient must be a grade 12 student who: a) achieves top standing in grade 12 construction-related class and demonstrates; b) high interest in CTS courses; c) leadership qualities; d) cooperative attitude with fellow students and teachers. Probus Club of South Edmonton/Rick Hernblade Memorial Scholarship Value: $500 The Probus Club of South Edmonton awards one annual scholarship to a grade 12 student who has demonstrated outstanding progress in fabrication studies. 7
Rotary Vocational Service Award Value: $500 & Plaque The Sherwood Park Rotary Club awards an annual scholarship to a deserving grade 12 student who: a) has shown significant improvement in overall achievement during high school; b) a strong vocational career focus. 8
