I hope everyone is enjoying this beautiful weather and having great spring breaks! As school draws to a close, the Anchor club can still be active in the summer. Car washes, community gardens, and more are all fun fundraisers that are best in the summer. Before the last school Anchor meeting, schedule a few for the summer as well as fundraisers to keep up the great work. Meet at the local library or at the nearest ice cream parlor. Not everyone will be there, but it will be a good time to keep in touch with friends and help your community! I hope everyone enjoyed the Anchor convention this year and I hope you are encouraging more Anchors to come! We want everyone to be able to enjoy convention and hope each year we have more participants! Congratulations to all of the seniors in Anchor club and I wish all of you the best this upcoming year in whatever you choose to do. I am so blessed to have been part of Anchor and serve as the President. Thank you to all of the Pilots that have made Anchor possible and thank you to all of the advisors that help through each step of the way! Ya ll are truly amazing and such great role models for us to look up to. Have a great summer everyone! Page 2 DISTRICT ANCHOR COORDINATOR I hope everyone enjoyed Anchor Convention this year. I would like to thank everyone that had a part in convention. We could not have had a successful convention without everyone working together. We are still working on the date and location for next year s convention. As your Anchor year draws to a close please remember that you can still schedule events for the summer. This is a good time to plan activities jointly with your sponsoring Pilot Club. I would also like to encourage each club to start working on scrapbooks, and community service award for convention next year. It is never too early to start. I am looking forward to working with each club next year and would like to see our Anchor clubs grow. If you will not be an advisor next year please let us know as soon as possible so that we will have an update to list. Mary Turner GA DISTRICT GOVERNOR Ahoy Anchors. The year is coming to a close and starting anew. This gives us two opportunities. One, we can review our plans for the past year and correct, finish or update the results. Two, we can start making new plans for the upcoming year. Evaluating if you want to make a project an ongoing or scrap it and try a fresh new project. Remember to suit your project to your community. Do the homework and decide what the needs are in your community. Whatever you choose remember, Do more, Care more, Be more. Let this be your guide. Thank you for being such hard working Anchors this year. In friendship and service, Patricia Whatley Governor Patricia, GA District Anchor Co-Assistant Sheryl and Governor-Elect Judy at the Anchor Convention. Georgia District Governor Patricia Whatley and Governor Elect Judy Jackson attended Anchor District Convention. They met with the Anchor Board, helped judge Anchor scrapbooks, and installed the new Anchor Officers. Over the four day summit the students participated in activities to help develop these leadership skills. This year s summit had Anchors from Virginia, Pennsylvania and Georgia. I had the pleasure of attending Freedom Foundation with Harleigh Bass from John Milledge Academy, the current Georgia District Secretary & Incoming Convention Chair, Ashley Perry, East Central Region Chair from West Laurens High School and McKenzie Harper, Northeast Region Chair from Elberton County High School. Also in attendance from Georgia were two Anchors sponsored by the Pilot Club of Eatonton, Amanda Meadows from Putnam County High School and Benjamin Peters from Gatewood Academy. Thomas Jefferson & Alexander Hamilton held a lively debate with the group Friday morning. President Jefferson challenged the students to explore what their role is as a citizen today and what it will mean in their future. He reiterated to the students the importants that as one of tomorrow s leaders, the need to understand their civil obligations. On Friday and Sunday the students had the opportunity to tour the Valley Forge National Park and Historic Philadelphia including the Congressional Hall, the Liberty Bell and Independence Hall. The students participated in a series of lectures and group discussions presented by two local law professors on the topics of democracy, citizenship, the American Constitution and the Bill of Rights. During a mock congress the students defended their position during a debate on the proposed American Security Act of 2014. Freedom Foundation was founded over 50 years ago as the nation s premiere program for citizenship education. The Foundation s historic 85 acre campus is located adjacent to the Valley Forge National Historic Park. I was extremely proud of your Georgia District Anchors in attendance. They were very active participants in this year s Leadership Summit while showing the speakers and staff the courtesy and respect they deserved. I expect great things from these Anchors as they move into future leadership roles in our communities. Robin Perry Pilot Club of Dublin GA District GPF Representative
