Purpose of the role : To ensure the safe, effective and cost-effective (i.e. quality) use of medicines for inpatients in Waitemata District Health Board (DHB) hospitals. To support the efficient supply, safe storage and distribution of medication to all services and clients of Waitemata DHB hospitals. To provide a clinical pharmacy service to identified services and inpatients of Waitemata DHB hospitals in accordance with relevant organisational and professional standards. To ensure training and support for pharmacists within the first three years of registration, and for pharmacists entering into hospital pharmacy who have not had previous experience in hospital pharmacy. Scope of Practice Pharmacist as defined by the Pharmacy Council of New Zealand Communication and Key Relationships 1. To communicate clearly and effectively with all other pharmacy staff members 2. Attend regular staff meetings 3. Promote team work practices in the pharmacy, participating in consultative processes within the department 4. To participate in the collections of clinical pharmacy interventions and workload statistics as requested by Clinical Pharmacist Team Leader 3 To participate in Quality programmes as requested by the Clinical Pharmacist Team Leader 5 To participate in peer review and competence assessment programmes Clinical Pharmacy interventions and statistics are provided Participation in Quality programmes Clinical competency maintained Clinical Pharmacy Activities 1. To ensure that any problems in the supply of medicines to the ward are resolved, and to act as the liaison person between the ward and the dispensary team General Duties 1.To maintain dispensing skills by participating in the dispensary checking roster at a level as agreed with the Clinical Pharmacy Team Leader and the Clinical Coordinator 2.To participate in the weekend service 3.
