Motion carried 03 COMMENTS FOR THE GOOD OF THE SCHOOLS: Spokane Tribe: Employees from the Spokane Tribe and Midnight mine discussed emergency shelter information and developing an MOA with the school to designate the school as an Emergency Shelter for local residents to relocate to in case of an emergency situation. Mr. Herda has attended a couple of these planning meetings. The School Board would like Mr. Herda and Shelly Sonnabend to continue attending these planning meetings with the Tribe. Jennifer LeBret-White gave approval to Monica Tonasket, Acting Executive Director for the Tribe to move forward with an MOA with the school. University of Washington: Polo Hernandez and members from the University of Washington gave an update on the partnership with the Wellpinit School. The UW Summer Institute was well attended by school employees and Tribal employees for the Native Certification program. Clark Pauls: Coaches contracts for fall sports turned in. MS boys will have a meeting the first day of school to see if enough boys interested in having a football team. Discussed issues with a concussion pre test for the athletes. 1
Kris Herda: Community Colleges of Spokane Running Start Course Equivalency chart. Four juniors are signed up for these 2 courses a quarter online at our campus. Motion from Mike Seyler to accept the Running Start Courses. Motioncarried Temporary permit for John Tomes, K-12 Music Teacher from OSPI for 1 year. Mr. Tomes teaches 2 periods at the MS/HS and the rest of the day at the elementary school. Summer School Report: Ten students completed 1 course online thru Apex. Larry Flett; Chris Scott: Gave a report on the school housing, the demolished unit and what they would like to see done with the empty space. Went over everything the maintenance crew did over the summer break. The district won t be purchasing any school buses this year. Started the process of purchasing another school van. Discussed what maintenance was needed to all the school vehicles, trucks and equipment. Terry Bartolino: Highly Capable Program. District accepts Highly Capable allocation for 2016-17 school year. The Highly Capable program is open now until October 1, 2016. Motion from James Williams to accept the allocation for 2016-17 school year. Motion carried 2016-2017 Minimum Basic Education Requirement Compliance. All schools calculated in and meet the 180 days, 1027 hours. Motion from Terry Payne to accept the minimum basic education requirement. Motion carried Alternative Learning Education Program Certificated Teaching Assignments for 2016-17. Motion from Mike Seyler approving teaching assignments. Motion carried Title III Funding Package application was submitted. Columbia Basin and Fort Simcoe H.S. Safety & Crisis Management Plans were discussed. Working on a local safety & crisis plans for the Alternative program here in Wellpinit. Kim Ewing: Summer School Report: The Jump Start program held in August didn t have a lot of kids attend. Competing with the Youth centers. Work closer with the Tribe next summer. Third grade teacher position offered to Kathy Rollins. Motion from James Williams to accept Kathy Rollins as a third grade teacher. Motion carried Student Affiliation Agreement with WSU. Student nurses from WSU to come out once a week to help our school nurse Kathy Conlin. Motion from Mike Seyler to accept the agreement. Motion carried Polo Hernandez: Gave a report on the Summer Institute. The mural behind the fish tank at the MS/HS is finished and looks great. The Documentary of the Indian Wars is done, will present to the School Board then present to the Tribal Council. 2
Mr. A. Culture week direction will be discussed at the next School Board work session. The Wellpinit students will skip the Community Days event due to MAPS testing that was scheduled. The District Business office will be working on a new way to submit requisitions and leave slips electronically on the Skyward program with help from ESD 101, Nick and Cory. The Nine Mile Food Service Director will be helping Celia and the kitchen staff with any paperwork needed. Contract between the Wellpinit School District and Raymond Leaver to facilitate and coordinate the implementation of a K-5 classroom intervention program and co-teaching model; and provide special instruction to individuals and small groups of students with identified needs; and other related functions as required. Contract between the Wellpinit School District and Marilyn S. Goudy to provide Special Education duties for the 2016-17 school year. Memorandum of Agreement between the Wellpinit School District and the Spokane Tribe of Indians to identify a working relationship between the two organizations in support of the early learning community while they earn their online degree certificate(s), degree(s) and continuing education. 3
