This new website is meant to address the needs of international student applicants seeking further education in Germany. This website is part of the campaign Study in Germany Land of Ideas. Here, you will find easy access the to the many international degree programmes (namely, Bachelor, Master and PhD). You will also find the following interactive elements:

Please note that the website is available in English and German. Just click on the appropriate language button. (3) FOOD SECURITY CENTER SCHOLARSHIPS The Food Security Center (FSC) is a newly established university center of excellence in development collaboration at the University of Hohenheim, Stuttgart, Germany, supported by the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD). FSC s mission is to make effective and innovative scientific contributions in research, teaching, and policy advice to eradicate hunger and achieve food security in collaboration with partner Higher Education Institutions in Africa, Asia, and Latin America and national and international development and research organizations. Thematically, FSC s activities deal with issues of sustainable food availability, food access, food use, and food utilization. More information is available from www.foodsecurity.de. FSC awards up to 29 scholarships for PhD students and postdoctoral researchers for a period of 4 to 36 months, starting April 15, 2010. The Center wishes to attract outstanding PhD students and postdoctoral fellows pursuing a career in academia or development collaboration. The scholarships aim at increasing their previously gained scientific knowledge and skills relevant to food security related issues. Furthermore, FSC aims at establishing an active, long-lasting collaboration with the supported researchers and their home institutions. FSC offers three categories of scholarships: Sandwich scholarships for PhD students (6 months) Research scholarships for visiting postdoctoral researchers (4 months) Excellence scholarships for FSC-supported PhD program Young Excellence School (36 months) The application deadline for all scholarships in category 1 and 2 is January 30, 2010. Regarding the details of the different scholarships, the application process and the requirements, please consult FSC s webpage (www.foodsecurity.de go to Scholarships ). Please read the information carefully before you apply. Only complete applications will be considered. In category 3, FSC is supporting excellent PhD students to participate in the FSC-supported PhD program at the University of Hohenheim, mainly students from developing countries. The detailed application information for the scholarships of this category will be posted on FSC s webpage end of January 2010; the PhD program will start in August 2010. (4) SYMPOSIUM STUDY AND RESEARCH IN GERMANY 23 RD JANUARY, 2010 Offered by the DAAD Information Center Accra in cooperation with the Goethe-Institut Accra and the German Embassy the symposium will provide detailed information on all issues concerning studying and doing research in Germany as well as on DAAD scholarship schemes. International degree courses that are conducted in English as well as language proficiency requirements and German lan-

guage learning opportunities in Ghana will be presented. Information on the student visa application procedure will be given by the German Embassy s Head of Visa Section. All SSSC and WASSCE holders, students and professionals are welcome to attend the symposium on Saturday 23 rd January, 2010, 10 am prompt. (5) MONITORING AND EVALUATION OF MALARIA WORKSHOP JUNE, 2010 A Monitoring and Evaluation of Malaria Workshop will take place in June, 2010 for professionals in Anglophone Africa. This workshop aims to increase regional capacity for M&E of malaria. Participants will acquire knowledge M&E fundamentals as they specifically relate to malaria programs and gain hands on experience in designing M&E plans. This workshop is targeted at national and sub-national level malaria personnel, especially those responsible for gathering, analyzing, and using program-related data and NGO and USAID Mission personnel responsible for oversight of malaria programs, especially in the areas of reporting, monitoring and evaluation. (6) THE INTERNET LIBRARY SUB-SAHARAN AFRICA (ILISSAFRICA) The internet library sub-saharan Africa (ilissafrica) is a portal that offers an integrated access to relevant scientific conventional and digital information resources on the sub-saharan Africa region. Information scattered on private or institutional websites, databases or library catalogues are brought together in order to facilitate research. ilissafrica allows simultaneous searching ("General search") in the following electronic resources: Library Catalogue UB Frankfurt (mainly books) Africa Section of the database World Affairs Online incl. the Africa library catalogue of GIGA Hamburg (books and journal articles) as from 1985 Library Catalogue of the African Studies Centre, Leiden, The Netherlands (books and journal articles) SSG-Section of the Swets database "Online Contents" (titles of journal articles) Database on internet resources with more than 3000 websites on sub-saharan Africa Furthermore an Africa Section of the Electronic Journals Library (EZB) to search E-Journals is provided. ilissafrica is a project of the Africa Department of the University Library Johann Christian Senckenberg in Frankfurt on the Main in cooperation with the GIGA Information Centre: Africa Library in Hamburg. Together they are in charge of the DFG Special Collections on sub-saharan Africa. (7) FUBIS: INTERNATIONAL SUMMER AND WINTER UNIVERSITY The FUBiS summer course program for term II and term III 2010 is now online and registrations will soon be possible. Term II: May 29 July 10, 2010 (6 weeks) Term III: July 17 August 14, 2010 (4 weeks)

Course topics range from German and European history, cultural studies and politics to literature, art and architecture to business management. Most subject classes will be taught in English. In addition FUBiS offers German language courses on five different levels of proficiency, Business German as well as subject classes in German. To let students gain first-hand cultural impressions FUBiS offers various excursions to destinations within Germany (Dresden, Hamburg, Weimar and Spreewald) and activities (e.g. a River Boat Tour through downtown Berlin or a visit of the Reichstag building and the Federal Parliament). (8) SUMMER SCHOOL RWTH AACHEN UNIVERSITY RWTH Aachen University (Rhine-Westphalian University of Technology) is the largest university of technology in Germany and one of the most renowned technical universities in Europe. The particular strength of the RWTH engineering departments is the combination of education and advanced research. Based on the great success of previous summer programs, Learn German experience Aachen and German Engineering, Language and Culture, RWTH Aachen University developed new Summer school courses for 2010: Automation and Simulation, Steel Design and Automotive and Mobility Studies are courses for international students who want to take part in excellent science and research. For further information on the Osnabrück Summer School Program please visit our web site at www.summerschools.uos.de (10) BUCERIUS/WHU MASTER OF LAW AND BUSINESS The MLB is an English-language program consisting of several components that offer strong professional instruction, a substantial master s thesis, an internship, language-skills training for participants who speak a native language other than English, and a Studium Generale. The MLB Program is particularly designed for graduates in law or business/economics and young professionals with some working experience. Also welcome are a limited number of graduates from other academic backgrounds who have strong professional interest in legal and business questions. (11) EUROPEAN MASTER IN INTERCULTURAL EDUCATION The course is designed for those who work in the educational sector, be it in schools or other institutions, who are interested in dealing with subjects related to intercultural pedagogics. The following areas will be targeted at: Intercultural and anti-racism education Language training International social work with children and adolescents Migration, multicultural societies and globalization Mechanisms of inclusion and exclusion In addition you will receive an introduction to the application of new media. The programme combines theory, practical training and empirical research to cover the whole range of intercultural pedagogics. The master programme has been offered successfully since 1999 and has been completed by students from more than 40 different countries.
