KEY TASKS EXPECTED OUTCOMES Specimen Collection Collect laboratory specimens from patients as and when directed according to specifications set out in the laboratory manuals Collect appropriate specimens in an efficient manner and ensure delivery to the laboratory in a timely fashion Participate in phlebotomy as part of a team Quality Improvement Ensure opportunities for personal and team improvement are identified and suggestions made Communication Liaise with wards/departments to ensure that specimen collection needs are met To use verbal, written and interpersonal skills appropriately Ensure that all patient and ward staff are treated with respect in accordance to Waitemata Health policies To answer the telephone and respond to queries appropriately Regularly attend and participate in meetings and departmental communication processes Team Work To work co-operatively and supportively with staff in all departments. Maintenance Phlebotomy areas within the laboratory are kept clean and fully stocked Maintain equipment according to documented procedures Stock taking is performed at regular intervals as required Personal Development and Training Maintain competency at a level that enables performance of duties to be at the standard expected of Phlebotomist Theoretical knowledge gained towards QPT examination Participate in progress and annual performance reviews Other duties As directed by the Manager that contribute and relate to the overall purpose of the position Statutory & Treaty of Waitangi obligations Ensures the professional and political integrity of WDHB by carrying out all functions in compliance of the Treaty of Waitangi and by demonstrating a serious commitment to keeping the treaty alive. PERSON SPECIFICATION POSITION TITLE: MLPAT or MLT in Phlebotomy Minimum Preferred Qualification Experience Healthcare, Nursing or Laboratory experience Demonstrated phlebotomy experience in other medical institutions. QMLT in Phlebotomy NZ Phlebotomy experience Registration with NZ Medical Sciences council. Current Annual Practicing Certificate Skills/Knowledge/Behaviour Able to collect samples from adults, children and neonates Able to relate to customers/clients Accurate and efficient Able to follow procedures Ability to understand a wide range of specialist laboratory terminology.
