This program, which brings together a consortium of 16 partners from 13 different countries including Canada, will fund research projects that will promote the integration of sex and gender analysis into research at an international level. The call invites interdisciplinary applications exploring sex and gender effects and dimensions in research topics relating to one or more of the following United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs): SDG3 Good Health and Well-Being, SDG 9 Infrastructure, Industrialization and Innovation, and SDG 13 Climate Action. NSERC will provide direct funding to eligible Canadian researchers to participate in awarded projects in the natural sciences and engineering related to SDG9 and SDG13 call topics only. The total amount available to Canadian researchers from NSERC is $700,000 CAD, enough to fund at least two projects. The maximum amount available per project is $100,000 CAD per year for up to three years, for a total of up to $300,000 CAD. The duration of a project must be two to three years. The rules for this joint call require that each applicant team include investigators from at least three countries participating in the initiative. For Canadian investigators, this means they must establish partnerships with researchers from at least two other partner countries (outside Canada). The pre-proposal documents are to be completed and submitted by Thursday March 1, 2018. This proposal requires an itemized Budget and a one-page justification. Successful pre-proposals will be contacted in May 2018, with the full application being due July 2018. MITACS Free Mitacs Workshop Mitacs is offering a skills development workshop for Graduate Students. This workshop covers the topic of Skills of Communication, and is free for graduate students and postdoctoral fellows. The workshop is a full-day session featuring the tools and tips of better verbal communication. It will test your assumptions and mental models and for many it may be the first time you learn about the Ladder of Inference, the Johari Window and more. The goal is to make you more aware of the tools available to help you become a better communicator in both your work and personal lives. The mastery of these skills is a long-term process, but by simply becoming more conscious of the various communication styles, including your own, you can approach conversations differently and change conversational direction to achieve better outcomes. This workshop is being held at Trent University in room ESB B203, February 22 from 9am to 5pm. Globalink Research Award This opportunity provides $6,000 for senior undergraduate and graduate students to conduct 12-24 week research projects at universities overseas. Research can take place at universities within the following countries: Australia, Brazil, China, EU member countries, Israel, India, Japan, Korea, Mexico, Norway, Saudi Arabia, Tunisia, United Kingdom and the United States of America. For travel starting this fall, applications must be submitted for May, and for travel starting this winter, the application must be submitted by September.
