Bulletin Volume 89 No 03 July 24 2017 Rotary Club of Sale Rotary District 9820 Incorporated www.rotaryclubofsale.org.au Last Meeting: Chairman: Pres. Mike Smith Sergeant: Mike Smith/Rod Exton Guest Speakers: Steph Wall and Max McKenzie Guests and Visiting Rotarians Monday July 24 Gippsland Education Fund Scholarships Steph Wall and Max McKenzie Chairman Mike, Steph Wall, Max McKenzie and Pres David

President s Announcements: President David advised: Tea and Coffee are now available for members and guests at Lakeside. We donated $1350.00 to Foundation with the balance to 5 Star after the closing of an account plus the Centurion funds raised by all members a great effort and the only Club in the District with 100% compliance. Members received a special pin from DG Don to acknowledge the effort. Thanks to Rotarians who answered to call to help at the 5 Star Barbeque at Bunnings Leo, Jeanette and 5 Star residents cook up a storm. Bishop Kay Goldsworthy has expressed interest in Joining our Club. Kay has been a guest speaker a number of times. President David is visiting Sale Central Club this week. From the editor: Sailability is losing its home currently in Max Morrison s old shed currently occupied by Maclaurin Upholstery. We are very grateful to the owner who has allowed us to store the boats and trailer so close to Lake Guthridge free of charge for the past 10+ years, but it is now up for sale and we will have to move out soon. Any members with any suggestions for a place to store our boats so the good work of Sailability can continue can contact me ASAP. Thanks, in anticipation. Rossy.

During the next few months Don would welcome members willing to accompany him on his many visits around the District. From Keith: Greetings from FNQ. I think it is time to remind members of the Sale Show dates and that travel, weddings and dirty weekends are banned for 3-4 November. They should know that the three certainties in Sale Rotarians lives are death, taxes and the Sale Show roster. Rachel and Carmel enjoy the evening

Sergeant: Mike and Rod shared the duties with few members escaping fines. Guest Speakers: Chairman Mike introduced our two guest speakers, Max McKenzie and Steph Wall, current recipients of our Gippsland Education Fund Scholarships. Mike, along with Adrian and Lyndon make up the selection team who chooses from the applicants. Funded by the Jennings Foundation, the two $10000.00 scholarships are awarded to worthy medical students who are encouraged to practice in Gippsland on completion of their studies. Both Max and Steph described the awards as life changing. Max is a Sale person who attended Sale College and Steph is from Warragul. Max was inspired by teacher Debbie Daff at Sale College and completed his research based biomedical degree before deciding to switch to medicine, feeling a desire to have more direct human contact in his work. Pediatrics, oncology or cardiology are fields that interest him especially. Steph also completed her biomedical degree and was inspired by her Mum who was a nurse and is looking towards pediatrics and obstetrics. Both work also with well-known local Caroline Rossetti who teaches them many of the practical skills they will need to master as doctors. Their course involves many new learning techniques especially with the use of video at home combined with work sheets in class. This requires a high level of self-motivation and time management skills. Both Max and Steph are 22 years old and will no doubt make fine young doctors helped along by our investment in their futures. President David make a presentation to Max

Steph receives her certificate. Graeme and Lyndon.
