YOU BELONG HERE. WELCOME TO THE NEXT STEP ON YOUR PATH TO SUCCESS. We recognize that as a transfer or adult student, you may have attended orientation at another institution, but making the transition to a new university often leads to different questions. We are excited that you have chosen to continue your education at DePaul University. This guide and our orientation program, Transition DePaul, are intended to help you successfully begin your DePaul experience.

GET REGISTERED. GET READY. TRANSITION TO DEPAUL. Transition DePaul is the mandatory orientation program for incoming transfer and adult students and consists of both an online component and on-campus experience. During Transition DePaul, you will Meet with an academic advisor Select and register for courses Get your DePaul ID card Meet other new transfer students Tour campus Learn about campus resources and services Attend sessions with helpful, relevant information about life at DePaul Your on-campus orientation will be held at the Loop Campus or Lincoln Park Campus, depending on which college you are entering. To view upcoming Transition DePaul dates, visit orientation.depaul.edu. Space is limited and reservations are first-come, first-served. HOW DO I GET STARTED? 1) Complete the Required Placement Process At DePaul, students complete their required placement process online before registering for on-campus orientation. The results will be shared with you during your advising session to determine course selection that will ensure your academic success. Complete the placement process by logging on to Campus Connect (campusconnect.depaul.edu). Using your DePaul user ID and password, select Self Service and then Admission. The link for the placement process can be found under the Next Steps tab. For detailed information about the placement process and exemptions, visit go.depaul.edu/testcreditandplacement. If you have specific questions about the placement process, please contact dpcl@depaul.edu or call (312) 362-8610. 2) Complete Online Orientation To best prepare for your on-campus experience, you will first complete an online orientation that will take approximately 30 minutes. The online modules will provide you information about the university and prepare you for advising and registration. To complete, log on to Campus Connect and select New Student Orientation under the Next Steps tab from the Self Service and Admission menu. 3) Register for On-campus Orientation One or two business days after you complete both the placement process and virtual orientation, you can register for on-campus orientation. To register, log on to Campus Connect and select, New Student Orientation under the Next Steps tab from the Self Service and Admission menu. GO.DEPAUL.EDU/TRANSFER 4) Receive Your Confirmation Details Once we receive your orientation reservation, a confirmation email will be sent to you with the date, time and location of your session. Be sure to save the email so you can bring it with you on the day you attend orientation. If you do not receive a confirmation email within 24 hours, please contact the Office of New Student & Family Engagement at orientation@depaul.edu. WHAT SHOULD I BRING? Picture ID Your Campus Connect user ID and password Copy of the confirmation email Immunization form (if not already submitted, visit go.depaul.edu/immunization for more information) Final transcripts (if not already updated in Campus Connect) REGISTRATION FEES A New Student Orientation fee covers the cost of completing Transition DePaul. It is automatically assessed and included on your first-quarter tuition statement at DePaul. The New Student Orientation Fee is anticipated to be $75 and is nonrefundable. FAMILY AND GUEST ATTENDANCE Your parents, spouse, family members or friends are welcome to accompany you to on-campus orientation. The Parent and Family Orientation Program runs concurrently with your student orientation program. You can register your guests by completing the Guest Registration section of the online reservation form. SPECIAL NEEDS AND DISABILITY ACCOMMODATIONS If you or one of your guests require special accommodations during Transition DePaul, please notify us at orientation@depaul.edu or (773) 325-7360 at least two weeks prior to your orientation date.

SUBMIT YOUR FINAL TRANSCRIPTS You are required to submit your official, final transcripts to the Office of Admission. We recommend you submit them as soon as they become available from your former institution. Your academic advisor can help you better select classes if your final transcript information has been evaluated before you attend orientation. Before attending on-campus orientation, check your records in Campus Connect to see if your transcript information has been updated. If your transcript information has not been evaluated, please bring your final transcripts to orientation. ACADEMIC AND CAREER ADVISING Take advantage of career and academic advising services as early as possible. Even before you complete Transition DePaul, you may make appointments with advisors in the Office for Academic Advising Support and the Career Center. Office for Academic Advising Support (OAAS) An OAAS advisor will help you Learn how your credits transfer to DePaul Explore courses and programs that meet your academic needs and personal interests Answer questions about your next steps as a new student New transfer students register for classes during on-campus orientation but can meet with an OAAS advisor ahead of time to learn about DePaul s academic options and how to get started. DEPAUL BASICS HOUSING OPTIONS On-campus Housing Transfer students can choose from several housing options at our Lincoln Park and Loop campuses. Students can opt to live at 1237 West, an independent facility offering loft-style apartments with preferred rates for DePaul students, rather than a residence hall. Another housing option is the University Center, which is located near DePaul s Loop Campus. For more information, visit housing.depaul.edu. Off-campus Housing The Office of Commuter Student Affairs offers information and resources that encourage students living off-campus to be involved and engaged in campus life. Visit studentaffairs.depaul.edu/commute for more information. COMMUTING AND PARKING DePaul students commute to campus in many ways: on foot and by train, bus or automobile. View detailed maps and directions to campus at go.depaul.edu/directions. All full-time undergraduate students receive a U-Pass that provides unlimited travel on CTA bus and L lines 24 hours a day, seven days a week during the academic year. The U-Pass is distributed on both campuses during the first week of the fall and winter quarters. For more information, visit upass.depaul.edu or contact ID Services. Students are encouraged to use public transportation as much as possible. Parking is limited at the Lincoln Park Campus. Near the Loop Campus, there are a number of public parking options. Students who wish to purchase a parking permit for the Lincoln Park Campus should visit parkingservices.depaul.edu. DEPAUL CARD/DEMON EXPRESS CARD At on-campus orientation, you will receive your DePaul Card, which serves as your official identification while on campus. It is best to carry your DePaul Card with you at all times. The DePaul Card is required for processing important documents, borrowing library books and gaining admittance into certain campus locations, such as computer labs. The DePaul Card is used for meal plans and printing from campus computers. You also may choose to open a Demon Express account. A Demon Express account turns your DePaul Card into a debit card that can be used for purchases at university cafeterias, bookstores, the Lincoln Park Campus garages, campus copiers and some vending machines. You can add money to your Demon Express account at Value Transfer Stations around campus as well as on Campus Connect. To learn more, visit go.depaul.edu/demonexpress. EATING ON CAMPUS There are numerous on-campus dining options as well as a variety of restaurants and cafés near both campuses. Meal plans are available for resident and commuter students. For specific costs and information, visit studentcenter.depaul.edu. RELAXING BETWEEN CLASSES Many buildings have student lounges that offer computer access, vending machines and places to relax. At the Lincoln Park Campus, most students head to the Student Center. In the Loop, check out the 11th floor of the DePaul Center. LOCKER RENTAL Lockers are available for rent at both campuses at a low cost. To find out more, visit the information desk at the Student Center in Lincoln Park or on the 11th floor of the DePaul Center in the Loop. PAYMENT PLANS A variety of payment plans are available to help you manage your tuition expenses while at DePaul. For more information, visit go.depaul.edu/paymentplan and select the My Finances tab. Check the status of your account and find out when your tuition is due through Campus Connect after you have registered for classes at Transition DePaul. CENTER FOR STUDENTS WITH DISABILITIES (CSD) CSD provides accommodations and support to students with disabilities, enabling them to fully participate in programs and services at DePaul. Within CSD is the Productive Learning Strategies (PLuS) Program, a year-round comprehensive program designed to meet the needs of students with documented learning disabilities and/or attention deficit/ hyperactivity disorders. Support services include accommodations for extended time on exams, advocacy, priority registration, suggestions for course selections, assistive technology, clinician services and more. FIND YOUR FIT There s something for everyone at DePaul. With a wide variety of clubs, activities, intramurals, and theatre and music programs, DePaul offers many ways for you to get involved. Studies show that students who are involved in at least one activity outside the classroom get better grades and are more likely to graduate. Take advantage of the opportunities DePaul offers to maximize your student experience. RAY MEYER FITNESS AND RECREATION CENTER campusrec.depaul.edu The Ray is a place to workout, take a fitness class or grab a snack between classes. Membership is included in tuition and fees for all full-time undergraduate students. SCHOOL OF MUSIC AND THE THEATRE SCHOOL PRODUCTIONS music.depaul.edu/newsandevents theatreschool.depaul.edu You can attend fantastic music and theatre events without ever leaving campus. Tickets to concerts and productions are offered at a reduced cost to students. ATHLETIC EVENTS depaulbluedemons.com You can watch our 15 NCAA Division I teams compete in the BIG EAST Conference. Students get complimentary tickets to all home games. FINANCIAL FITNESS financialfitness.depaul.edu DePaul s Financial Fitness Program provides free workshops, one-on-one advising and tools to help you manage costs. Develop a spending plan, manage college costs, pay down debt and explore options for building wealth. ADULT STUDENT AFFAIRS studentaffairs.depaul.edu/ adultstudentservices Adult Student Affairs assists adult students in making the transition to college and achieving their educational goals. Adult Student Affairs is located in the DePaul Center, Room 11017, at the Loop Campus. VETERANS AFFAIRS studentaffairs.depaul.edu/va DePaul is committed to working with our returning veterans. Veterans Affairs can be contacted at (312) 362-5656. ESPECIALLY FOR TRANSFER STUDENTS Look for welcome events at the beginning of each quarter specifically for new transfer students. Transfer Student Union (TSU) Transfer Student Union is a student organization and programming board that works to provide transfer students the opportunity to fully transition into the DePaul student body. TSU works closely with the Office of New Student & Family Engagement to coordinate events, programs and initiatives for transfer students to promote successful transition both socially and academically, as well as acclimate to Chicago. Tau Sigma Honor Society for Transfer Students To recognize the academic achievements of new transfer students, we established a chapter of the Tau Sigma Honor Society. Membership is extended to students who are in the top 20 percent of their class in their first quarter at DePaul. LEARN THE LANGUAGE The DePaul community has its own language. You ll hear a lot of acronyms and abbreviations for offices, departments, organizations and events. Here s a translation guide. Allstate Arena The men s basketball team s home court, which is located 35 minutes from campus in the northwest suburb of Rosemont. A free shuttle service transports students to and from campus on game days. DAB DePaul Activities Board. The main student programming board responsible for planning major campus events, including concerts, festivals and activities on campus. DCSA DePaul Community Service Association. DCSA includes 16 studentcoordinated volunteer groups that work to transform social structures in schools, community-based organizations and lowincome neighborhoods all over Chicago. DCSA is part of University Ministry. DePaul Central One-stop location where you can get answers to your questions about financial aid, registration and payment options. LPC Lincoln Park Campus. One of DePaul s campuses, located in the Chicago neighborhood of Lincoln Park. Loop This is part of downtown Chicago and home of the Loop Campus. The area is defined by a loop created by the CTA s elevated train tracks (the L ). OMSS Office of Multicultural Student Success. OMSS helps new students make the transition to DePaul. It also offers programming and services in the areas of academic enhancement, cultural exploration, service learning and leadership development. New Student Service Day This event brings the newest members of the DePaul community together in service projects that make a difference in Chicago, followed by a celebration picnic. The Pit This large area in the Schmitt Academic Center, between DePaul Central and the Career Center, is a great place to hang out, study or talk with friends. SAC Schmitt Academic Center. A central classroom building on the Lincoln Park Campus. Senior Capstone Taken your senior year, this course integrates everything you ve learned as a student at DePaul. The Ray Ray Meyer Fitness and Recreation Center. Named after DePaul s legendary men s basketball coach Ray Meyer, it s located at the Lincoln Park Campus and operated by Campus Recreation. UC University Center. This residence hall is located close to the Loop Campus and also houses students from three other Chicago universities. UMIN University Ministry. UMIN offers religious programs and services for a wide range of faiths, as well as community service opportunities.
