5 ROTARY YOUTH LEADERSHIP AWARDS RYLA is a 7 day residential leadership seminar for aspiring leaders aged 18 to 25 years. Young adults keen to exercise their leadership potential participate in a range of formal and informal activities, which promote leadership skills as desirable qualities. Description of Rotary Rotary is an organisation of Business and Professional persons, united world wide who provide humanitarian service, encourage high ethical standards in all vocations, and help build goodwill and peace in all the world.
6 Paul Harris Fellows Make a Difference A donation of US$1,000 enables The Rotary Foundation to fund projects and programs, which improve and invigorate the people around the world and enhance international friendship and understanding. Here are examples of what Rotary Foundation can do with US$1,000: Establish a tree in Jamaica that will annually produce 5,000 tree seedlings and increase family income for 700 farmers. Furnish all materials necessary for construction of a deep borewell in India which supplies clean drinking water for more than 300 people. Provide artificial limbs for 25 disabled persons in Calcutta, India. Establish 10 small sewing businesses to provide severely poor mother in low income districts of Caborca, Mexico with the ability to lead self-sufficient lives and contribute to their community. Contribute school supplies for more than 1,200 needy children in Guatemala. Provide a broader spectrum of medical services for 830 people in Mali where hospital and medical services are inadequate for the population. Purchase a cow for a war-widow in Uganda, where Civil War has shattered the economy and children have died because of lack of protein and calcium for their diets. In our club, a Paul Harris Fellow is bestowed upon a member when he or she has served the club and Rotary in general for an extended period of time. This same recognition is also presented to non-rotarians in the community who have dedicated a large part of their lives to community services of any kind. Some members of Rotary donate $100 each year to the Centurion Fund. They are recognised as Rotarian Centurions, and the funds are used for Rotary Foundation projects.
7 RYLA ROTARY YOUTH LEADERSHIP AWARD SEMINAR 2015 While it is indeed a pleasure to receive acknowledgement and an expression of appreciation, the result we see when a RYLA participant comes to a meeting some time after they have attended the course and tells us about the change it made to their lives is really the ultimate reward.
