Chief s Message It is an honor and a privilege to serve the community of North Olmsted and our department personnel as Chief of Police. We are a full service police department that prides ourselves on maintaining a high level of integrity and providing the highest quality of police services. I am proud of the men and women of the North Olmsted Police Department and the level of commitment and motivation they show on a daily basis. Public Safety is our top priority and we want to ensure the City of North Olmsted is a safe place to live, work and visit. Our ability to be successful directly correlates to the strength of partnerships we have created within the community. We strive to enhance the quality of life in North Olmsted through these partnerships with our schools, citizens and business leaders. DEPARTMENT ORGANIZATION The North Olmsted Police Department consists of two divisions: Operations and Administrative. The Operations Division is responsible for the day-to-day business of the department. The Administrative Division is responsible for supplying the Operations Division with the materials and personnel needed for the performance of the police mission. The Chief of Police leads these two divisions. A Captain oversees the daily operations and administrative duties for patrol, detective bureau, corrections, auxiliaries, record room, communications, and training. In addition the Captain is responsible for the department s evidence technicians, field training officers, departmental training, and bicycle unit. These assignments are handled by officers chosen from within the patrol division. A secretary assists the Chief and the Captain. The North Olmsted Police Department is currently made up of 44 sworn officers. The Patrol Division works three (3) shifts and each shift is supervised by a Lieutenant and two (2) Sergeants. A total of 35 officers are assigned to the three shifts. Included in the sworn officers are five (5) patrol officers assigned to the Detective Bureau which is supervised by a Sergeant. The North Olmsted Police Department also has an Auxiliary Unit consisting of 17 non-sworn personnel. These dedicated civilians are trained in traffic control, crime prevention, and crowd control. They are a valuable asset to the department in situations where traffic control/crowd control is needed for an extended period of time. Utilizing auxiliaries in a situation allows the department to free our patrol officers to handle other important duties. Auxiliaries drive marked police units on development and shopping center patrols adding another tool in the department s pro-active patrol tactics. The Corrections Division is manned by one (1) full-time corrections officer and two (2) part-time officers. They are responsible for the jail and the inmates. Their duties include booking inmates, jail security, and the health and welfare of the incarcerated inmates. The Corrections Officers also handle the video arraignments of inmates with the Rocky River Municipal Court.. 5
