Invitation to the ChinaNANOMAT2004 Exhibition and Workshop + Asia Nano Forum Special Workshop+ANF Subcommittee Meeting Nov. 4-6 th 2004, China International Exhibition Center (CIEC), Beijing, China Dear ANF member colleagues, Nanotechnology R & D is accelerating in China in the past few years with drastic increase in government and industry funding at major R & D centers as well as venture businesses. There are more than 50 universities, 21 research institutes including one of the world`s largest research institute the Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS) Institutes, and 300 companies active in Nanotechnology R & D. The National Center for Nano Science and Technology (a national platform and coordinating body for the Nanotech R& D) will be built next to the Institute of Chemistry of CAS this year with total budget of about 240 million RMB committed from the government in addition to the research project funds. The CAS Nanotech Engineering Center Corporation located in Beijing was founded a year ago to be the commercial arm for the CAS for accelerating the commercialization of CAS Nanoscience and Technology (For detailed information on China Nanotech information, please visit the Asia Pacific Nanotech Weekly at www.nanoworld.jp/apnw). Opportunities in China for product marketing, R & D partners and other business partnership building are becoming more and more attractive and realistic. China is well known for its excellence in Nanoscience research, particular in the field of Nanomaterials. China is currently practicing its own unique approach in commercializing nanoscience and technology as well as building nanotechnology industry. The Chinese Nanotech community recognizes the importance of globalization in nanoscience and technology development and industry growth, and is keen to find complementary partners for accelerating the commercialization process. In addition, the Societal Impact of Nanotechnology has raised much concern in the Chinese Nanotech community and the public. The China National Center for Nanoscience and Technology is taking the initiative to address this fundamental and important issue. Supported by the China Ministry of Science and Technology and the National Nano Science and Technology Center, we would like to invite you to participate in the ChinaNANOMAT2004 Workshop on Nanomaterials Industrial Impact plus the Asia Nano Forum Special Workshop on Nanotechnology Social Impact in Asia held on Nov. 5 th where you will meet leaders in Nanomateirals R & D and business from mainland China, other
Asian countries and USA. The key topics of the workshop will focus on Industrial Applications of Nanomaterials in areas such as Energy, Environment, Household, Textiles, Coating and areas relevant to the local industries and market needs. Another key issue the workshop aims to address is the Societal Impact on Nanotechnology which has become a global issue and is much concerned in China, the world fastest growing economy, who would like to establish a common language and be inline with the global world. The Asia Nano Forum will host the special workshop on Nanotechnology Societal Impact in Asia to share among 12 Asia member economies their perspectives the first time in Beijing. You are also invited to participate in the 2 nd China International Nano Materials & Technology Exhibition (ChinaNanoMat2004) held on Nov. 4-6 th 2004 at the China International Exhibition Center (CIEC). ChinaNANOMAT2004 is the only international nanomaterials exhibition held in China. It is one of the theme exhibitions of the 2 nd China International Advanced Materials Exhibition (ChinaNewMET2004) where ChinaEnergyMat2004 and ChinaMetalMat2004 will be co-currently held during the same period. Beijing is not only the cultural and historical center of China but also the center of highest concentrated excellence of Chinese Nanoscience and Technology R & D. You are invited to join the Beijing Nano Tour scheduled on Nov. 4 th 2004 and the Beijing Sightseeing Tour scheduled Nov. 7 th 2004.
