Fortuna Union High School District Fortuna High School 379 12 th Street Fortuna, CA 95540 707-725-4461 Fax: 707-725-5511 www.fortunahigh.org August 1, 2016 To the parents of Fortuna High Students, I hope that you are all enjoying a wonderful summer and are making the most out of the wonderful weather that we have been having. The high school staff is already preparing for another wonderful school year. It seems like the 2016 graduation just happened, but as we all know time flies when you re having fun. The class of 2016 had some great accomplishments, and we wish them all the best as they move forward onto the next step in their lives. However, it is time to start thinking about the upcoming 2016/2107 school year. There are some exciting things happening here at the high school, and I believe that this is a truly amazing place to send your kids to school. We have recently hired three new, energetic teachers, Josh Quintal will teach physical education, James Richardson will teach history, and Amy Williams will teach Spanish. Along with the new teachers we have hired three new counselors, Fiona Weismehl, Rebecca Doane Dixon, Stephanie Nabors. Another addition to our staff is our new Assistant Principal, Korey Williams. Korey will be moving here from the Chico area and taking over for Mr. Millsap who is the new Principal at East High School. Some of the highlights of the upcoming year will be the Fortuna Academy pilot program, and the first year of the AG Soil Chemistry class. The first day of school for the 2016/2017 school year will be on August 29 th. We are very excited to welcome the approximately 235 students in the class of 2020 and are also eagerly anticipating the return of all of our Huskies in August. Please remember to read through the entire newsletter as it contains many important happenings that will take place between now and the start of school. If there are any further questions you can keep up to speed on the school website at www.fortunahigh.org, or come by the office and see us in person. I look forward to seeing you this fall, and enjoy the rest of your summer. Thank you, Clint Duey Principal Fortuna High School Fortuna High School is a supportive community of learners encouraging excellence, practicing integrity, and preparing for the future. 2

Overdue Library Books and Textbooks Fortuna High School students check out books from the library through a computerized program that keeps track of all text and library books. When students check-in their books, the system will clear the student of that book. Students must turn in the exact book number that was issued to them. If the book is not returned and checked in, a charge is assessed to the student at the full replacement value. Fines may also be assessed to books that are damaged. It is imperative that this matter be cleared during Back to School Days (August 25 & 26) in order for those students to pick up their schedule for the fall. Bring overdue library books or textbooks to the Library-Media Center, or full payment in the form of cash, check, money order or credit card. Payments and returned books will be accepted from 9:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. If payment of this obligation causes extreme hardship, methods of payment may be arranged through the Assistant Principal. The California Education Code 48904 states that any high school may withhold yearbooks, grades, diplomas, and transcripts from students with charges for lost or damaged books until these payments are made, so clear any charges up as soon as possible. SFO (Student Finance Office) has moved to the main office SPORTS SEASON PASSES Students Do you want to attend all of the regular home sporting events without paying each time?
