New and Transfer Student Orientation Get Connected St. Thomas Campus Sunday, January 6, 2013 - Friday, January 11, 2013

Dear New Student: WELCOME! The members of the University community are looking forward to your arrival on the St. Thomas campus of the University of the Virgin Islands (UVI). We are happy that you have decided to attend UVI. The pursuit of a college education will probably be one of the most exciting and rewarding challenges of your life. Research indicates that students who attend and actively participate in an orientation program benefit by having a greater level of satisfaction with their University experience. Additionally, they are more likely to remain in college than those who do not attend such programs. The primary objective of our student orientation program is to support and assist new students in becoming academically successful as they transition to UVI. The enclosed schedule details several days of activities. During these days you will have the opportunity to: Meet new classmates Interact with University administrators, faculty, staff, and student leaders, Become familiar with campus facilities Attend orientation sessions Meet individually with your faculty advisor and discuss your academic program for the spring semester Register for classes Tour UVI Turf Participate in workshops and discussion groups designed to meet your concerns and interests as a new or transfer student New and transfer students are required to attend ALL sessions of the orientation program. On January 6-7, 2013, on-campus students will check in from 12:00 p.m.- 9:00 p.m. at their assigned residence hall, and commuters will check in on January 8, 2013 from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. in the Sports and Fitness Center (SFC). When you check in you will receive a welcome packet, the 2012-2013 UVI Catalog, and other pertinent information. Please bring all materials that you receive to the orientation program. The Enrollment Confirmation Form and a $100.00 enrollment deposit are due prior to orientation. The $100.00 fee is applied toward your tuition. If you have not submitted your enrollment deposit, please do so before the deadline. Your Enrollment Confirmation enables us to plan more effectively for your orientation program and classes. If you are coming from outside the United States Virgin Islands, book your flight early, preferably as soon as you have received information about your residence hall assignment or have secured off-campus housing accommodations. It is very important that you do not arrive in St. Thomas without confirmation of your housing status (on-campus or off-campus). We look forward to seeing you at the New Student Orientation activities in January. Sincerely, D.C. Battiste, Ed. D. Dean of Students (STT Campus) Division of Student Affairs
