East Baton Rouge Sheriff s Office East Baton Rouge Sheriff s Office East Baton Rouge Sheriff s Office K-9 Team Named National Champions November 20143 Inside this issue: Deputy Of The Month 2 Congratulations 3 In The Community 4 Birthdays 5 Upcoming Events 6 The East Baton Rouge Sheriff s Office K-9 Team was named the 2014 United States Police Canine Association National Trial Champions. Captain James Broussard and K-9 INDO and Lt. Steven Whitstine and K-9 TIGO attended the 2014 USPCA trials held in Wilson, NC. October 19-24th where forty-six agencies participated with 104 Police K-9 teams, representing 26 Regions from the USPCA. The East Baton Rouge Sheriff s Office K-9 Division is a member of USPCA Region 10, which represents all of Louisiana. Capt. Broussard and K-9 INDO were named the 2014 USPCA National Champions, making them the first-ever Region 10 team to win. The duo scored 693.34 points out of a possible 700, receiving perfect scores in three of the five events. Capt. Broussard and K-9 INDO also received the following individual awards: Top Dog Award Tom Larson Award 1st Place Criminal Apprehension 1st Place Scent Work 1st Place Agility Lt. Whitstine and K-9 TIGO placed 5th in Agility and a National Certification.
DEPUTIES OF THE MONTH Corporal Shannon Blackwood has been named the Uniform Patrol Deputy of the Month. Corporal Blackwood was hired by the Sheriff s Office in October of 2002. He has been nominated for his actions taken on September 18, 2014 in the apprehension of a suspect who had violated parole and had two warrants out for his arrest. Corporal Blackwood was assigned to the reads of the residence, since the suspect was a flight risk. After an hour of trying to coax the suspect from the residence, Blackwood witnessed someone jump out of a window on the north side of the residence. He alerted others and gave chase. The suspect was apprehended and approximately 100 yards away and taken into custody. The Warrant Division is grateful for Corporal Blackwood s help in this apprehension. Connie Schroeder, of the Reserves Division, has been named the Administrative and Support Services Deputy of the Month. Mrs. Schroeder was hired by the Sheriff s Office in July of 1985. She is being recognized for her tireless efforts associated with keeping track of all Reserve Deputies, School Crossing Guards, and Substitute Crossing Guards, as well as successfully performing as the Pride Substation Secretary. Terrie Crockford has been named the Civil Deputy of the Month. Ms. Crockford was hired by the EBRSO in November of 2014. Ms. Crockford is currently assigned to Foreclosures. Her duties include handling all movable notice of seizures and sale. We appreciate her attention to detail and relentless determination in producing quality and timely work. Foreclosures is proud to have Ms. Crockford as part of the team along with her efforts and assistance that she offers to her co-workers. Terrie has earned the respect of both her supervisors and her peers. Deputy Johnathan McClung, of the Parish Prison, has been named the Corrections Deputy of the Month. Deputy McClung was hired in March of 2012 in the security shift area and moved to Central Booking in October of 2013. He has been nominated for his investigative skills and keen use of available resources in the identification of an inmate who refused to give any information in regards to his name or date of birth. Corporal Jordan Webb, of Armed Robbery and Burglary, has been named the Detectives and Special Operations Deputy of the Month. Corporal Webb was hired by the Sheriff s Office in October of 2003 in Communications and transferred to Burglary in 2008. Corporal Webb is being nominated for his performance in the apprehension and arrest of a burglary suspect who fled to the Carolinas after robbing a bank in EBR. His investigative skills at the initial crime scene allowed him to positively identify the bank robber within hours of arriving on the scene. Corporal Webb also led the multijurisdictional investigation with the assistance of Carolina agencies, executed the search warrants, recovered many of the pieces of evidence, and obtained a taped confession from the suspect.
