Life as a Resident: On Call Interns: Two 2-week night shifts on wards and two 2-week night shifts on nursery L&D or guest intern call on electives- two shifts per month Upper Level Residents: Wards: 2 calls/block + 2 week night shift PICU: 12 hour shifts (no night calls) NSCU: 12 hour shifts (no night calls) ED: 12 hour shifts Electives: L&D 1 call/block, guest upper 3 shifts per month Jeopardy: available by pager (home call)
Wards Life as a Resident: Caps & Post-Call Cap of 16 patients per 2 intern team (8 patients/intern) Patient redistributed to other teams if at cap or signed off to non-team care (not followed by residents) All Rotations No new patients post-call Continuity clinic cancelled post-call
Life as a Resident: Inpatient Support Nursery/NSCU: Neonatologist or fellow in-house 24/7 PICU: Intensivist in-house 24/7 ED: Pediatric ED attending in-house 24/7 Ward: Hospitalists in-house 24/7 Radiology: Pediatric radiologist 7 days/week, available by pager for emergencies after hours. On-call radiologist reads films at night. Ancillary Staff: Available 24 hrs a day: nurses, RT, pharmacists, ward clerks Available 7 days/week (pager at night): SLP/OT/PT, dieticians, lactation consultants, SW, IT support, translation services
