2019 Merit Based Scholarships These are general descriptions of Southwest Florida Community Foundation competitive scholarships for, Adult Learners, and Graduate who meet the criteria outlined. Completion of the FAFSA Form is required for all scholarships. Complete the online application at www.floridacommunity.com/scholarships Monday, December 17, 2018 to Sunday, February 24, 2019 (closes at 11:59 p.m.) The online scholarship application includes prequalifying questions relevant to the selection criteria for each scholarship. SCHOLARSHIP DESCRIPTION Patricia Means Scholarship Fund To fund a scholarship for high school seniors who are graduating from a high school in Charlotte, Lee, Collier, Hendry or Glades County. Must have a minimum of 2.0 GPA, but must not have a GPA higher than a 3.0. Must enroll at a technical school, community college, college or university. Must enroll full time. Must be a United States citizen. Selected applicants will be called for an interview in April. The Tommy Bohannon Foundation Scholarship Fund To fund scholarships for Lee County high school seniors who participated in any aspect of sports during high school, demonstrates academic excellence and is committed to community service. Must have participated in any aspect of sports, during high school, demonstrates academic excellence and is committed to community service. AWARD $10,000 Renewable up to 4 years $5,000 WHO MAY APPLY? 1

AMI Kids SWFL Foundation- Gulf Harbour Yacht Club Scholarship Fund To fund a scholarship for students who successfully complete the AMI Kids Southwest Florida program and want to pursue technical school or college. This scholarship fund will award a two-year renewable scholarship to each scholarship recipient. Must successfully complete the AMI Kids Southwest Florida Program. Must plan to attend a technical school, trade school, college or university. Former Graduate of Everglades City Fund To fund a scholarship for a high school graduate of Everglades City, in Collier County, who has at least a 3.0 GPA and plans to attend college fulltime. Secondary preference will be given to children or grandchildren of a service member of the United States Armed Forces. This scholarship fund will award one scholarship to a student for four years, or for such time as will allow the student to complete a college or graduate degree. Must be a high school senior or graduate of Everglades City, in Collier County, or must be a child or grandchild of a service member of the United States Armed Forces, current or honorably discharged. Must have a minimum 3.0 unweighted GPA. Must pursue a 2- or 4-year degree, at an accredited college or university. Must include how this scholarship will help me benefit the community in the application s personal essay section. $2,500 Renewable up to 2 years $1,500 Renewable up to 4 years Graduate Graduate Richard S. Thompson and Marion L. Thompson Memorial Fund To fund a scholarship for Lee County students pursuing a post high school science education. Must have a GPA of at least 3.5. Must graduate from a high school in Lee County. Must be pursuing a post-secondary science education. Selected applicants will be called for an interview. Paul B. & Aline Flynn Scholarship Fund To fund a scholarship for students pursuing a degree, from a 4-year accredited college, in Communication or Journalism. Must graduate from a public or private high school in Charlotte, Collier, Lee, Hendry or Glades counties. Must pursue a degree in Communication or Journalism. Must have a 3.0 GPA or higher. $10,000 $2,950 Graduate s Graduates 2

Chip Johnson Memorial Scholarship Fund To fund a scholarship for students who have completed 60 hours of college and plan to attend Barry University, Florida Gulf Coast University, Nova Southeastern University, Florida Southwestern State College or Hodges University. Must have completed 60 semester hours of college and plan to continue study toward a 4-year degree at Barry University, Florida Gulf Coast University, Nova, Edison State College or Hodges University, or a regionally accredited college in the 5-county area. Must have a GPA of 3.5 or above and an outstanding record of academic achievement. Must live in the 5-county area served by the Community Foundation (Charlotte, Collier, Glades, Hendry and Lee). Must demonstrate leadership, community service and service to school. $4,000 Graduate John and Ellen Sheppard Humane Student Scholarship Fund To fund a scholarship for high school seniors who have a belief in a universal creator of life and are actively involved in school and student life, with a commitment to help others through volunteer work in the community, charitable organizations or religious organizations. Must graduate from a public or private high school in Lee, Charlotte, Hendry or Glades County. Must have a minimum 3.2 unweighted GPA. Must acknowledge belief in a universal creator of life or higher power. Must be actively involved in school and student life with a willingness and a commitment to helping others. $2,700 Lewis B. Barber Memorial Scholarship Fund To fund a scholarship for books and tuition for students pursuing either a certification to teach the deaf and/or the blind, or attending seminary or preseminary school to study Church Christian music or Christian Education. $5,000 Graduate Must graduate from public or private high school in Charlotte, Collier, Glades, Hendry or Lee County. Must pursue certification to teach deaf/blind or attend seminary/preseminary school. Must maintain satisfactory grades. Must acknowledge and express Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior. 3

Bonita Springs Area Chamber of Commerce / Ralph A. Richardson Fund To fund a scholarship for a graduate or high school senior of Estero High School, or the child of a current Bonita Springs Area Chamber of Commerce Member. Must be the child of a current Bonita Springs Area Chamber of Commerce Member or a graduate/senior of Estero High School. Must have a 3.0 cumulative GPA or higher throughout high school years and up to application date. Must be planning to continue education at a vocation school, technical school, college or university. Must exhibit a commitment to volunteering. $2,900 Graduate Dorothy Curtis Brown Scholarship Fund in Memory of Ann Nutt To fund a scholarship for a student, early childhood program director or assistant director who will pursue advanced certification from an accredited college or university to become an administrator or director at a child care center. $1,000 Graduate Must enroll at an accredited college or university in Southwest Florida. Must want to obtain a Child Development Associate Certificate (CDA), Associate s Degree or Bachelor s Degree in Early Childhood Education. John & Ruth Childe Scholarship Fund To fund a scholarship for a Lee County student with a physical disability to pursue higher education in a college, university or technical school. $1,900 s Graduates Eligibility Requirements Must graduate from public or private high school in Lee County. Must have a physical disability and the ability to state and describe disability in the application s personal essay section. Anne M. Fassett Scholarship Fund To fund a scholarship for men and women who have a physical disability and are seeking post high school educational opportunities at a college, community college or technical school level. $4,000 Graduate Must graduate from public or private high school in Charlotte, Collier, Glades, Hendry or Lee County; or, be currently enrolled or planning to attend a Florida state college, community college, or technical school. Must have a physical disability. Must use a wheelchair. 4

Mary Ann Elder Scholarship Fund To fund a scholarship for a student from Charlotte, Collier, Glades, Hendry or Lee County entering or continuing a Master s Degree program in Social Work, at an accredited university or college. $1,400 Graduate Must be from the five-county area of Charlotte, Collier, Glades, Hendry or Lee County. Must be entering or continuing a Master s Degree program in Social Work, at an accredited university or college. Couse-Gram Scholarship Fund To fund a scholarship for a Moore Haven High School student pursuing postsecondary education. $900 Must be a Moore Haven High School senior. Must be pursuing post-secondary education. Carol Patti McLaughlin Scholarship Fund To fund a scholarship for a student pursuing a 4-year degree, at an accredited college or university, who has a GPA of 3.3 or higher, demonstrates community service and is from Lee, Charlotte, Glades or Hendry County. $1,200 Graduate Must be a student in Lee, Charlotte, Glades or Hendry County. Must be pursuing a 4-year degree at an accredited college or university. Must have a GPA of 3.3 or higher. Must exhibit community service. Doris W. Frey Memorial Scholarship Fund To fund a scholarship for students studying Christian Ministry/Youth Ministry, Education, Christian Counseling, Nursing or Medicine. Preference will be given to members and attendees off the Sanibel Community Church. Must graduate from a public or private high school in Charlotte, Collier, Hendry, Glades or Lee County. Must pursue a degree in Christian Ministry/Youth Ministry, Christian Counseling, Education, Nursing or Medicine. Must be committed to a life of Christian service. Must demonstrate a commitment through action in ministering to others. Must have recognized ability & academic performance with standard measures of grades & appropriate test scores. $2,700 Graduate 5

Bruce T. Gora Scholarship Fund To fund one scholarship to a high school senior or undergraduate student who is pursuing photography (digital or traditional), architecture or music (priority to a brass instrument player or trumpeter) at an accredited college, university or technical school in Florida. $1,100 Must graduate from a public or private school in Charlotte, Collier, Glades, Hendry or Lee County. Must pursue a major in Fine Arts Photography, Architecture or Music at a Florida college, university or technical school. Must have a GPA of at least a 2.5. Frances Harris Gresham Scholarship Fund To fund a scholarship for a Lee County graduate, of a public or private high school, to attend college. Must graduate from a public or private high school in Lee County. Must plan on attending college. $1,400 Graduate Immokalee Achievement Award Fund To fund a scholarship for an Immokalee High School graduating senior who has or will be applying to a community college, or an advanced education trade school, for a course or courses leading to a specialized trade or job skill. $1,000 Must graduate from Immokalee High School. Must enroll at a community college or trade school in courses leading up to a specialized trade or job skill. George E. Judd Scholarship Fund To fund a scholarship for graduating Lee County seniors pursuing higher education in the fine or performing arts. Must graduate from a public or private high school in Lee County. Must pursue a degree in fine or performing arts. $1,000 Doc Keen Memorial Scholarship Fund To fund a scholarship for a student who was an active member of 4-H or FFA for two consecutive years and attended a Clewiston or LaBelle High School. Must graduate from Clewiston or LaBelle high school. Must pursue post-secondary education. Must have been active member of 4-H or FFA for two consecutive years. $750 Graduate 6

Isabel Mayer Kirkpatrick Scholarship Fund To fund a scholarship for Lee County high school graduates with a B average. Must graduate from public or private high school in Lee County. Must be well-rounded in terms of education, community service, sports and leadership activities. Must have a GPA between 2.7-3.3 unweighted. $5,300 Graduate G. Napier and Ellen T. Wilson Scholarship Fund To fund a scholarship for an outstanding high school student who has volunteered at a Veterans Administration Hospital, Clinic or similar organization providing services to military veterans, to attend an accredited university, college or vocational technical institution. $6,000 Graduate Must graduate from a public or private high school in Charlotte, Collier, Glades, Hendry or Lee County. Must have volunteered at a veteran s administration hospital or clinic, or a similar organization that provides services to military veterans. Must provide a letter of recommendation from the veteran s facility or organization where the applicant volunteers. Lee County Library Sciences Scholarship Fund To fund a scholarship for Lee County residents pursuing a Bachelor or Master s degree in Library Science. Must be a resident of Lee County. Must be pursuing a Bachelor or Master Degree in Library Science. Must have completed at least 60 credit hours. Must have a GPA of 3.0 or higher. $4,200 Graduate Ruth Messmer Scholarship Fund To fund a scholarship for women pursuing a business career in college. Must graduate from public or private high school in Lee, Charlotte, Glades, Hendry or Collier County. Must be a woman. Must be pursuing a business career in college. Must be well-rounded in terms of education, community service and leadership activities. $1,200 Graduate 7

Judge William J. Nelson Scholarship Fund To fund a scholarship for a student who will attend or attends the University of Florida. Must graduate from a high school in Charlotte, Collier, Glades, Hendry or Lee County. Must have overcome adversity in some way and describe in the essay. Must attend the University of Florida. $1,800 Graduate Chet and Janett Perry Rotary Club of Fort Myers Scholarship Fund To fund a scholarship for a student who is pursuing a career in Accounting. $900 Must be graduating from a public or private high school in Charlotte, Collier, Hendry, Glades or Lee County. Must pursue a degree in Accounting. Must enter college within a year following high school graduation. Southwest Florida Deputy Sheriffs Association Fund To fund a scholarship for students who are dependents of an active Sheriff s law enforcement officer. Must graduate from a high school in Charlotte, Collier, Glades, Hendry or Lee County. Must be pursuing post-secondary education. Must be a dependent of an active Sheriff s Law Enforcement officer in Lee, Charlotte, Collier, Hendry or Glades County. Must list name of Law Enforcement Officer on application. Must provide documentation of Sheriff s Office employment. $1,500 Graduate Mrs. Cathy Riedel Scholarship Fund To fund a scholarship for Cypress Lake who want to pursue a career that involves helping those with special needs. Preference will be given to those who have participated in the Special Olympics and who have aided in ESE classrooms. This award is not restricted to education majors; any public service career, such as Law Enforcement, Fire and Rescue, Nursing, Law, Medicine, etc., is included. $1,000 Must be a Cypress Lake High School student. Must want to pursue a career related to assisting people with special needs. 8

Shadow Wood Charitable Foundation Scholarship Fund To fund a scholarship for Shadow Wood Country Club or Shadow Wood Community Association employees and their children (but not other dependents) in their pursuit of further education. Must be a high school graduate or equivalent. Must be an employee of Shadow Wood Country Club or Shadow Wood Community Association who has completed one (1) year of service and currently working full or part-time, OR the child, age 26 years or younger, of such an employee. Must submit two (2) letters of recommendation (non-family) Must include in the essay his/her rationale for requesting financial assistance and the desired outcome from continuing his/her education. Must document financial need. $5,000 Graduate The Speakers Assembly of Southwest Florida Scholarship Fund To fund a scholarship for high school or college students who apply for a scholarship, through The Speakers Assembly of Southwest Florida scholarship process, and meets the requirements. Must apply for this scholarship through the Speakers Assembly of Southwest Florida. Must be a high school or college student. Must meet the scholarship requirements, which are available through the Speakers Assembly. $2,500 Graduate Jim Ilias Athletic Memorial Scholarship To fund a scholarship for a high school athlete who demonstrates excellence in athletics, academics, sportsmanship and moral character, and is pursuing postsecondary education. $1,000 Must be a high school athlete in Lee, Charlotte, Collier, Hendry or Glades County. Must be pursuing post-secondary education. Must demonstrate excellence in athletics, academics, sportsmanship and moral character. 9

The Ricky Pigott Memorial Fund To fund two scholarships: (1) A high school senior who participated in the Cape Coral Youth Football Association and (2) A Mariner High School football player who is a graduating senior. (1) Must have participated in the Cape Coral Youth Football Association. Or (2) Must be a Mariner High School football player. (1) $1,500 (2) $2,500 Total-37 10
