You will meet Chelsea Ranger, Residence Life Coordinator and her team of Residence Advisors and Resident Directors. All students should report to the Upper Dining Hall at Atlantic House to check-in and then will proceed to your room in your Residence Hall. 1
8:00am-2:00pm If you are not living on campus, you are welcome to join us for any activities today, but you are also free to get settled into your new accommodations off campus. Please return on Wednesday 29 August and check in between 9am and 12pm. Brunch Brunch on arrival day and all breakfasts and dinners in the dining hall from Tuesday 29th August Friday 1st September are included in your meal plan as a residential student. You will be a few blocks away from the Kensington commercial area, Kensington High Street, where there is every shop imaginable, including; Whole Foods, McDonalds, Nandos and Starbucks. Lots of very pleasant local shops and eateries can also be found in close proximity to us and Sandwich World on Gloucester Road sells very cheap sandwiches and snacks! Atlantic House: Dining Hall 9:00am-5:00pm 3:00pm Outside of Orientation Week the dining hall operates for breakfast, lunch and dinner during the week, brunch on Saturdays and brunch and dinner on Sundays. Students living in catered buildings (Atlantic and Ambassador) are entitled to breakfast, lunch, and dinner, Monday through Friday as part of your meal plan as well as brunch on Saturdays and brunch and dinner on Sundays. If you are not in a catered building but wish to eat in the dining hall you may pay cash or card on these days. IT introduction & wireless support One of Kensington s IT Support Analysts will talk to you about how you can get connected to the Internet and how you can use the University s Email and other IT facilities. Wireless support during Orientation week will be available Tuesday Friday in the Atlantic House Library between 9am and 5pm. Walking tour of local area Meet in front of Atlantic House at 2:50pm to be taken on a tour of the Kensington campus and local area. Student leaders will help orient you to the area and amenities available on campus, and point out local shops and transport links that may be of interest. 7:00pm-7:30pm Residence hall meetings (MANDATORY) This meeting is to run through the rules, regulations and safety in your residences; it is mandatory that you attend. Your meeting location depends on your assigned residence hall: Various Locations Around Campus If you live in Atlantic House you will meet with your Resident Advisors in the Atlantic House Common Room If you live in Ambassador House, you will meet with your Resident Advisors in the Ambassador House Common Room If you live in Collingham Gardens, you will meet with your Resident Advisors in the Collingham Gardens Common Room. Visiting student orientation meeting (MANDATORY) 1:00pm-3:00pm This session is required for all visiting students. It will cover all aspects of student life in London, including social events and opportunities, personal safety, health and travel, how to use basic Richmond University services, and essential academic information. 17 Young Street: Lecture Hall Have all of your questions answered! Kensington Museums Trip 3:30pm-5:00pm Visit the incredible cultural activities Kensington has to offer! Meet on the steps of Atlantic House at 3:20pm and Residence Life student leaders will walk you over to the museums just around the corner, including the Victoria & Albert, Science Museum, and Natural History Museum. Atlantic House: Library 1:00pm Shopping in Kensington Need any supplies? Meet on the front steps of Atlantic House and student leaders will lead you to local shopping areas so you can stock up! 3:00pm Visit Richmond campus Interested in seeing the university s other campus on Richmond hill? Meet on the front steps of Atlantic House and a student leader will show you how to get to our Richmond campus. Upon arriving, you can take in the campus, go for a stroll in Richmond park, and attend the new student drinks reception (on the Richmond campus lawn at 5pm). (travelling to Richmond campus) 5
4:00pm Welcome drinks at the Builders Arms Join the International Programmes team (Dom, Camille, and Chiara) for a drink at the Builders Arms in Kensington. It s a great chance to get to know your fellow visiting students in a relaxed setting. The first few drinks will be on us! The Builders Arms (Kensington) pub between Atlantic House and Asa Briggs For Kensingtonbased students: Meet at the theatre; we recommend leaving Kensington no later than 6:00pm For students who go on the Richmond tour: Please meet on the front steps of the main building at 5:30pm For Kensingtonbased students: Meet on campus at 6:00pm For students who go on the Richmond tour: Please meet on the front steps of the main building at 5:30pm Theatre in the West End - WICKED (optional you must sign up online in advance) See WICKED in London s famous West End. WICKED the untold story of the Witches of Oz. The Tickets must have been purchased in advance and are available on the Richmond website (Richmond University Web Shop). The student leader will have the tickets for the theatre and will arrange to meet the group in advance. Visit the London Eye (optional you must sign up online in advance) Take in the London skyline whilst rotating 135 metres above the River Thames. The London Eye is just opposite the Houses of Parliament and Big Ben and will provide fantastic views of the city. Get some sun, eat some snacks, and get to know your fellow students! 5:00pm-7:45pm Dinner Atlantic House: Dining Hall British Pub Quiz 7:30pm You are free to do your own thing so you can have a well-earned rest, catch up with new friends, and discover London on your own terms! You are also free to join your Residence Life team and Orientation Leaders for a Pub Quiz filled with fun British trivia meet outside of Atlantic House at 7:30pm for this event. 7
Saturday, 1 September Please meet on the front steps of Atlantic House at 1:30 pm Cruise down the river Thames (optional you must sign up online in advance) Students will make their way to Waterloo Millennium Pier on public transportation for a cruise on the River Thames. The boat will depart the pier at 3 pm and return at 6 pm. Richmond-based students will be driven back to campus by a hired coach on a first come, first served basis. The Tickets must have been purchased in advance and are available on the Richmond website (Richmond University Web Shop). Your ID will be checked prior to heading to the pier and you will be provided with a wristband. THIS IS A TICKETED EVENT. TICKETS MAY BE PURCHASED ONLINE. YOU MUST BRING ID WITH YOU. PLEASE NOTE: Students must be 18 years of age or older. Please bring ID or you will not be allowed on to the boat. Sunday, 2 September 12:30pm Harry Potter Walking Tour (optional you must sign up online in advance) Discover all of the most famous filming locations from Harry Potter and more on this magical walking tour in London. Lear about London s rich Muggle and wizarding history, amazing facts about the books and films, and see many of the Harry Potter locations used in London, including the ministry of Magic and the entrance to the Leaky Cauldron. Meet outside of Atlantic House at 12:30pm to travel together on public transportation to London Kings Cross Station to meet your guide. 8
