COMMUNITY-WIDE EVENTS BOOKS WITHOUT INK: AN EXHIBIT September 21 May 1 8:30 a.m. 4:30 p.m. When were books for blind people invented? How were these books read and how were they made? University of Manitoba s Archives & Special Collections is home to a wonderful collection of old and fragile books made for and by blind readers. Some of these books contain Braille but others contain rare examples of rival systems, inkless alphabets that developed alongside Braille but are now obsolete. These fascinating books will be on display throughout Homecoming week. INDIGENOUS ACHIEVEMENT CELEBRATION September 30 11:30 a.m. Everyone is welcome to join and celebrate University of Manitoba s Indigenous alumni and connect with the Indigenous community on campus. This year we are celebrating the 40 th anniversary of the University of Manitoba Access Program as well as the 30 th anniversary of the Engineering Access Program (ENGAP). Our Indigenous Homecoming aims to bring the community together through sharing stories of success and leadership. A celebration lunch will follow. Ticket proceeds support the construction of the Conklin Theatre in the Taché Arts Project. Homecoming is a tradition of celebrating how our university experience has shaped who we are.
