Merriam Park Senior Center 651-645-7424 West 7th Community Center 651-298-5493 keystoneservices.org Key for Event Locations: This symbol means events are held at Merriam Park Community Center. This symbol means events are held at West 7th Community Center. STAYING SOCIAL is important for your health! An active social life is as important for your health as eating well or avoiding cigarettes. There has been a lot of attention paid to the effects of loneliness on people of all ages. New research shows loneliness can be as lethal as smoking 15 cigarettes a day. Loneliness can affect us at any age but it is especially prevalent for people that have had significant life changes such as loss of a partner, retirement, chronic health issues or a move. Feeling connected to others is the cure but the amount and type of social interaction each of us needs varies. Volunteering is a great way to engage with others and have a positive impact on our community. Keystone has a large variety of volunteering opportunities, or consider visiting a volunteer matching website to find a volunteer role that interests you. Keystone has a variety of options for people to connect with others such as volunteering, attending an exercise class, participating in a social activity or simply stopping by one of our senior centers to enjoy a puzzle or read the paper. If getting out of the house is difficult consider using technology to connect with friends and family. We have classes and volunteers that teach people how to use your smart phone, tablets or computers to communicate face to face with others. Give us a call if you would like more information on any of these opportunities. Want to start a new club or engagement activity? Many of our current activities were started by community members. We would love to hear your ideas and help set-up something new. Let us know. MERRIAM PARK COMMUNITY CENTER 2000 St. Anthony Avenue St. Paul, MN 55104 WEST 7TH COMMUNITY CENTER 265 Oneida Street St. Paul, MN 55102 651.645.0349 keystoneservices.org Find us on Facebook

Your membership also includes many free activities such as movies, card clubs, book and craft groups, social activities, educational speakers and history lectures. Unlimited activities with a fee of $2 or less. Membership gives you access to expert advice from community leaders around pension counseling, health insurance and Medicare navigation, legal advice and pension rights. Most importantly it gives you a place to connect with others in the community. Sign Up Today: In person or by mail Mail to: Keystone Senior Program, 2000 St. Anthony Ave., St. Paul MN 55104 Questions about membership? Call Karlene at 651-603-6663. Name(s) Date Address Phone# Email Emergency Contact (name & phone) Hospital Preference (in case of an emergency while at the center Membership Level: $30 $35 membership + mailed newsletter (1 per household) www.keystoneservices.org Program Fee Changes: You will notice in this newsletter that we added a small fee to activities that have been free in the past. Due to funding changes over the years there has been a significant reduction in support for senior centers from foundations and grants. Creating a space for people to engage with others in the community built by seniors is an important mission for Keystone. We have made changes over the years to account for the funding changes but providing free events is no longer feasible. Consider signing up for an annual membership which will cover unlimited participation in activities that have a fee of $2 or less. Because we want to make sure everyone is welcome if this is a financial hardship for you please let one of our staff members know. Merriam Park West 7th 2 VISIT OUR WEB SITE: KEYSTONESERVICES.ORG
