DiscoSwat! 2014 WELCOME TO SWARTHMORE! We re excited to have you on campus and are eager to help you decide if Swarthmore is the place for you. We ve got a great series of events lined up, as well as some unstructured time for you to explore campus on your own. If you have any questions, please don t hesitate to ask any of the numerous admission staff members or student workers--we re here to help! We re looking forward to getting to know you better and hope you have a great time! --The Admission Team

Location Guide: Admission Commons: Located in Parrish Hall, on the 2nd Floor. Once you get to the top of the stairs, turn around and the Commons is right in front of you. Eldridge Commons: The beautiful coffe bar/huge lobby in the Science Center. IC: The Intercultural Center LPAC: Lang Performing Arts Center. There will be several events throughout LPAC--kind Swatties will help you find your way if needed, just ask! Specifically, we ll be in LPAC Cinema. McCabe Library: The other building right next to Parrish. It s off to the right if you re standing in front of, and facing, Parrish. Parrish Beach: Not a beach at all--it s the lawn in front of Parrish Hall. Parrish Parlors: The two large rooms at the base of the stairs in Parrish Hall. Scheuer Room: Located on the first floor of Kohlberg, behind Parrish. Sharples Dining Hall: Down the hill from Parrish...just follow the crowds around mealtimes. Upper Tarble: On the second floor of Tarble, located right beside Parrish. Tarble is also where you ll find our Snack Bar--Essie Mae s--and our Bookstore for all your Swat swag.

Thursday, September 18, 2014 Ongoing Registration (Parrish Parlors, Parrish Hall) During registration students receive their packets for the weekend, including meal tickets, host information, etc. Every half Pre-Welcome Orientation (Admission Commons) hour begin- A quick greeting and pre-orientation from Rob Rivas, ning at 7:00 Director of Diversity Recruitment. Ongoing until 3:55 Students Attend Classes See the Class Schedule in your folder for available classes. Attending early morning classes is encouraged so that you can see as many as possible and still make the required Admission events. 11:00 am Group Information Session (Admission Commons) A part of our usual Admission schedule, an Admission Dean will talk about the ins and outs of the College, including the topics of academic life, social life, campus culture, etc...bring your questions! 11:00 am Host Matching (Parrish Parlors, All Day) Please remember that you re not fully checked in until you AND your host come together to the HOST MATCHING table in the Shane Lounge (Parrish Hall). If you haven t yet been in touch with your host, come and find out how to reach them! 10:30 pm- Lunch (Sharples Dining Hall) 1:30 pm Please note: The dining hall and snack bar close at 1:30. 1:00 pm Campus Tours (Departing Parrish Hall) Get a guided tour of our arboretum/campus--be sure to ask where the best study spots are located! 2:00 pm Coffee & Snacks at the Library (McCabe Library) Become acquainted with Swarthmore s McCabe Library. Join us for snacks and button making from pages of vintage books.

Ongoing until 4:00 DiscoSwat Meet & Greet (Admission Commons) Consider this your home-base. Got an hour to kill before events? Nothing going on that s particularly interesting to you? Come and enjoy a few snacks and meet all of the other AMAZING prospective students that are here for the program. 4:00 pm Welcome (LPAC Cinema) Meet the many people who make this program possible and hear from Lili Rodriguez, Associate Dean of Diversity, Inclusion and Community Development. Students will also get helpful hints on navigating the weekend s activities. Attendance is required 5:00 pm Admission Conversation (LPAC Cinema) Have you thought about the way your application fits into the character of the colleges you re applying to? This conversation is to help you think of how to use your Discover Swarthmore experience as a way to consider your fit to Swarthmore, and how to express that in your application. Attendance is required 4:00 pm- Dinner with Host (Sharples Dining Hall) 8:00 pm Meal tickets will be provided at registration. 7:00 pm Interfaith Center Meet & Greet (Admission Commons, 2nd Floor, Parrish) Come meet some of the spiritual groups on campus and learn about Interfaith life at Swarthmore. 8:00 pm Open Mic Hosted by OASIS (Upper Tarble) Listen to some of Swarthmore s best spoken word artists. And, if inspiration strikes, hop onstage and share your talent! 10:30 pm Game Night (Admission Commons) Midnight Put your game face on; the Admissions Deans are ready to battle. Come up for board games, wholesome fun and, of course, more snacks!

Friday, September 19, 2014 7:30 am- Breakfast (Sharples) 9:30 am Don t forget breakfast is the most important meal of the day! Ask about the Phoenix. 8:00 am- Attend Classes and/or the events listed below 11:30 am Classes are offered every hour on the half hour: 8:30, 9:30, 10:30, and 11:30. Attendance at 8:30 classes is encouraged so you can fit in as many visits as possible. You will have to make some tough choices...just like in college! 9:30 am Pre-law and Pre-Health w/gigi Simeone (LPAC Cinema) Are you interested in learning more about Pre-Med and Pre-Law at Swarthmore? Stop by to hear from our Health Science and Pre-Law advisor, Gigi Simeone. 10:30 am Financial Aid Conversation (LPAC Cinema) John Haggerty, Assistant Director for Financial Aid, will give the nuts and bolts of the financial aid process here at Swarthmore. Attendance is suggested for any students who might apply for financial aid 12:30 pm Faculty and Staff Lunch (Upper Tarble) This informal lunch will be an opportunity to have more questions answered. There will be several members of the faculty and College staff available to meet and greet. Attendance is required 2:00 pm Faculty Panel (LPAC Cinema) Want to know more about the Honors versus Course options? What about research at a liberal arts college? Advising on your mind? This panel will answer these questions, and it is a great opportunity to learn about other aspects of academic life at Swarthmore. Attendance is required

3:15 pm Student Life Panel (LPAC Cinema) Hear from the experts themselves: current Swatties! This session will be closed to any administrators or faculty so that students can talk freely about the Swarthmore community. This is a perfect time to ask social life questions. Attendance is highly recommended 4:15 pm Specialty Tours (Leave from Parrish Parlors) The Ville, Science, Arts, Athletics 4:00 pm- Get OUT! (Mertz Field/Parrish Beach) 8:00 pm Student groups/teams will be hanging out, participating in Ultimate (4:00-4:30), Quidditch (4:00-4:30), and all other manner of outdoor activities. 4:30 pm Fiesta del Barrio (Parrish Beach) Come celebrate Latino Heritage Month! Affinity groups ABLLE and Enlace have collaborated to provide the Swarthmore campus with the full experience of a Latino community celebration. Meet new people, converse with one another and rejoice as one under the good vibes of a Latin BBQ. 6:00 pm- Dinner (Sharples) 7:00 pm 7:00 pm The Value of Liberal Arts at Swarthmore (Science Center 101) A common misconception is that liberal arts graduates are not prepared for careers, particularly in research, medicine, and law. A panel of alumni will share their experiences illustrating practical applications of a liberal arts education. Attendance is highly suggested

8:15 pm Affinity/Activist Group Open House (Eldridge Commons in Science Center) Meet the groups on campus dedicated to raising awareness both at Swarthmore and beyond! Meet students from all over the world who converged in a small liberal arts school outside of Philadelphia. Samosas and mango juice will be served. 9:30 pm-on Evening Events Check out the Student Event Schedule in your Folder for details. 10:30 pm Game Night: The Rematch (Admission Commons) Want to settle last night s scores?
