Turner is completing his Ph.D. in Biosystems and Agricultural Engineering from the University of Kentucky writing his dissertation on Development of a Decision Support System for Capacity Planning from Grain Harvest to Storage. Previously he recieved a Masters in Biosystems and Agricultural Engineering from UK and a bachelors in Engineering Technology (Mechanical) from New Mexico State University. 7 Outstanding Faculty Advisor Award 2017-2018 Is there a faculty member who has been particularly exceptional as an advisor? Nominate a faculty member who has demonstrated outstanding advising on coursework, career or graduate school planning, internship selection, senior project, or support services. The Outstanding Faculty Advisor Award recognizes a faculty member who has had a positive influence on students through academic advising. The award recipient will receive a $2,000 cash stipend and will be recognized by the President at Fall Conference. In addition, her/his name will be posted on a perpetual plaque in the Kennedy Library. One faculty member is recognized annually. Guidelines for submitting a nomination: Submissions are only accepted via: http://advising.calpoly.edu/content/nominatefaculty-advisor Faculty, staff, and current students are eligible to nominate faculty for this award. At least one submission for each nominee must come from a current student. No self-nominations will be accepted. Only individual submissions will be considered. If more than one person would like to nominate a faculty member, each person must submit a separate nomination statement. Submissions must include a statement of 300 words or less addressing the nominee s academic advising services, activities and interactions, as distinct from the nominee s teaching responsibilities. Spring 2018 EE/BRAE/HNRS 450 (4 units) Solar Photovoltaic System Engineering Open to highly motivated students in any major Lecture MW 4-5:30 186-C301, Lab T 3-6 20-130 8 Art MacCarley, Ph.D., PE., amaccarl@calpoly.edu and guest lecturers from industry and NPOs Theory, design, analysis, technology and future trends in solar photovoltaic systems. Course topics include the physics of solar energy, solar site planning, electrical and mechanical design, regulatory approval and permit processes, government and utility incentives, financial return-on-investment analysis, component specification and practical installation experience. The project-based laboratory will involve the students in the installation of a residential or commercial (community service) system and/or an on-campus grid-tie system. No textbook. I will provide all course notes. Library and web research will be required. Some individual self-study or skill-building will be required for most students. Considerable time outside of the scheduled laboratory meeting will be required, in particular, one full weekend for the project work and one full day for the field trip. Course is open-enrollment at discretion of the student. Basic physical science knowledge and some hands-on abilities will be required.
