NJ Higher Education Recognition Awards! A nnually the Office of the Secretary of Higher Education and EOF Central recognize graduating seniors across the state that have excelled academically and truly embody the spirit of the EOF program. This year s EOF County College of Morris award recipients are a wonderful group of seniors who have worked very hard year after year, and finally graduating with their Associate Degree. What made these scholars so successful was the fact Educational that they were also very active. They maximized all of our academic support services, while participating in many EOF events, workshops, and community service opportunities. Beth Pinajian EOF Counselor, Tuyen Nguyen & Marco Garcia EOF Students and Pam Marcenaro EOF Director. Continued on page 2 1 EOF This Year s Award Honorees Are: The Office of the Secretary of Higher Education and EOF Central know all of the extra hard work and challenges our students face today, so its important their successes are to be recognized and celebrated. This year, on April 10, the EOF Graduating Senior Ceremony was held at Georgian Court University. The EOF team along with four of our awardees were in attendance. Each EOF Program Director was called up to recognize their individual students. Michael Kelly, Tuyen Nguyen & Amanda Testa Outstanding Academic Achievement, Maintained a Cumulative GPA range of 3.50 3.99 Michele Franchi & Marco Garcia Academic Achievement Maintained a Cumulative GPA range of 3.20 3.49 Henry Rincon Outstanding Achievement Leadership, involvement, and major contributions to the EOF program.

NJ Higher Education Recognition Awards! (Continued) This event was very wellattended with over 800 EOF students and guests from all over the state. It is always great to see how big the EOF family has become, and the positive impact it has on New Jersey s college students. In addition to attending the state wide celebration, we will also honor these seniors and many other EOF students during our Annual Awards Dinner & Recognition Celebration, taking place Thursday, April 23 at 6:00 PM here on campus in the Student Community Center Davidson Rooms. We are very much looking forward to this special evening, as it is the culmination of the entire academic year and a time to celebrate and recognize our students, staff, alumni, and administrator s hard work and contributions to the Educational Opportunity Fund at CCM. Congratulations to all of our award winners! Pamela Marcenaro EOF Director EOF Senior Spotlight Maria Solines What advice or message would you like to leave to current and/or future EOF students? I advise future CCM members to always have good communication with their counselor. Ask any question or concerns you have without hesitation. Something small, as just telling them how overwhelmed you are, can help you feel a little more relieved. Or if you just don t understand a class at all, your counselor will go out of their way and look for resources so you can get a better understanding of that class. What motivated you to continue striving for academic success and professional growth? What motivates me to continue strong academically is my mom. My mom is what motivates me because she raised me alone, and was my main provider. She s been my mother and father and seeing how hard she had to work for me, and how coming to this country to have a better future, motivates me to succeed in life. She sacrificed everything for us to come here and give me more opportunities in life. I am here because of her and have to prove to her and myself, that I can do it and that her sacrifice was not in vain. Would you like to add anything else? Just this quote: "If you set your goals ridiculously high and it's a failure, you will fail above everyone else's success." James Cameron 2

EOF Alliance Events April 2015 T he Alliance had another great Diversity Bake sale on March 31, raising $73.72, which will support the EOF Transfer Scholarship fund. Students went over and above the call for baked goods, bringing many assortments of cupcakes and brownies. Kudos to Kassandra Vargas, Shelsey Vazquez, Dhrupa Patel, Tuyen Nguyen and Marco Garcia for their time and energy in making this a success! wrap gift baskets for the upcoming Tricky Tray. They created beautiful baskets with talent and flair, and reflected what EOF is about: an extension of family! All their help was most appreciated by Edie Nelson, who coordinates the annual fundraiser. Nelson said she couldn t remember a more energetic group of first year Alliance students! On April 7, there was a meeting filled with fun and energy as students helped Next, officers plan to participate in the upcoming Campus Life Spring Picnic on April 21, with a cotton candy machine. Any student wanting to help staff their table that day can sign up in EOF starting April 13. No meeting in EOF that day. All students, please be reminded to sign-up to assist at the Tricky tray selling tickets on April 23, 10-4 or during the awards dinner later that evening. Many volunteers are needed to make EOF s biggest day a success! Finally, the Alliance will have an end-of the year luncheon on May 12 to celebrate the achievements made in the academic year and to look ahead to next year. Edie will be awarding one Alliance officer, who best represents the criteria for the AESNJ Leadership Award, at this luncheon. Sign up to attend starting April 15, open to all EOF students. Lunch will be at Forte s Italian Restaurant in Randolph, meet first in EOF then we will carpool there.
