Ellettsville Police Department Monthly Report June 2016

OFFICER OF THE YEAR PRESENTATION JUNE 27, 2016 Congratulations to Officer Eric Chaudion who was named Ellettsville Police Department's Officer of the Year for 2015! Officer Chaudion was presented with a plaque and a framed letter of commendation at the Ellettsville Town Council meeting on Monday, June 27, 2016. Officer Chaudion's seventy-five criminal cases in 2015 resulted in fifty-six felony arrests, the recovery of $30,000 of stolen property, $16,000 in restitution, and seven recovered stolen vehicles. His hard work and dedication has undoubtedly made the community a safer place. MAN THREATENS WOMAN WITH HANDGUN JUNE 19, 2016 On Sunday, June 19, 2016 at approximately 1:00 AM, Officer Travis Perian responded to an apartment complex located in the 5200 block of North Raubs Lane to investigate a complaint of a male displaying a handgun and making threatening statements. Upon arrival, Officer Perian and Sergeant Jeff Feiner of the Monroe County Sheriff's Department made contact with Travis Earl-Ray Cummings (34 years of age) of Bloomington, Indiana. Cummings, who is on parole for a previous conviction of "Dealing in Narcotics", had a replica handgun in his back pocket and an "open" pocket knife was found on the ground next to him. The replica looks like a real handgun and fires "BB" projectiles using carbon dioxide canisters for propulsion. According to witnesses, Cummings had been asking for a female resident of the apartment complex and each time he would advise the person he asked that he "had something for her" while displaying the weapon and "cocking" the hammer on the replica firearm. Cummings was arrested and booked into Monroe County Correctional Center on a charge of Intimidation, a Level 6 Felony, and a Level 5 Felony for Displaying a Handgun in a threatening manner. HERITAGE TRAIL DEDICATION CEREMONY JUNE 18, 2016 On Saturday, June 18, 2016 the Heritage Trail was officially dedicated during a wonderful ceremony. Chief Jimmie Durnil, who is also a member of the Ellettsville Parks and Recreation

Board, was part of the dedication ceremony. Officers from the Ellettsville Police Department provided traffic control in the area to provide safety for the ceremony-goers. TOUCH A TRUCK EVENT JUNE 15, 2016 On Wednesday, June 15, 2016 Officer Alec Leggio participated in the Touch a Truck event held at the Twin Lakes Sports Park in Bloomington. Officer Alec Leggio was in attendance with the Ellettsville Police Department's Ford Police Interceptor Utility. LOCAL YOUTH SHOWS SUPPORT FOR POLICE DEPARTMENT JUNE 10, 2016 On Friday, June 10, 2016, while on patrol, Officer Eric Chaudion had the pleasure of meeting Arianna Edwards. Arianna gave Officer Chaudion a love bag filled with a snack and a drink and

several other useful items like a water bottle and a flashlight. Arianna said, "They [police officers] need to be rewarded for helping people in need. That's what God would do. They show His light." Thank you so much to Arianna! It is rewarding enough for our officers to have the opportunity to meet and work with the youth of our community. Arianna s support of our officers means the world to them and it says a lot about her character, too.
