ELLETTSVILLE COMMUNITY MEMBERS PAY TRIBUTE TO THE FALLEN MAY 29, 2017 On Memorial Day, Monday, May 29, 2017, the Ellettsville Community came together at Memorial Park for a Memorial Day Program to honor those soldiers who have made the ultimate sacrifice in the service of our country. Ellettsville Town Marshal Jimmie Durnil, who also serves as the Ellettsville Parks Board President, made the opening remarks. Ellettsville Police Chaplain, Pastor Randy McCollum gave the opening prayer and the Benediction. Boy Scout Troop 119 "Presented the Colors" and the Ellettsville Girl Scouts performed the "Laying of the Wreath". Holly Nethery introduced the "Memorial Day Essay Contest" winners and presented their awards. Winner for Grades 1-6 was Matthew Nasir. Winner for Grades 7-12 was Josephine Sparks. Haley and Stacy Nethery provided a musical interlude by singing, "Heaven Was Needing A Hero". The keynote speaker was Retired Lt. Colonel Jim Garrett, West Point Graduate and former active duty United States Army Soldier. Graham Hughes and John Garrett played Taps. OFFICERS VISIT LEMONADE STAND ON NATIONAL LEMONADE DAY MAY 21, 2017 Officers Alec Leggio and John Newcomer took time out on Saturday, May 21, 2017 to meet local hero Rayanna who was participating in the National Lemonade Day event. Rayanna had set up her stand on Sale Street and was selling tasty lemonade and snacks to help raise money for her church mission team. She was also collecting food for the animal shelter. Great job Rayanna, we need more kids like you out there making a difference!
OFFICER ERIC CHAUDION NAMED NORTHSIDE EXCHANGE CLUB OFFICER OF THE YEAR MAY 17, 2017 Congratulations to Ellettsville Police Department's Officer Eric Chaudion, the Northside Exchange Club's Officer of the Year! Officer Chaudion was presented the award on Wednesday, May 17. Officer Chaudion's forty criminal cases in 2016 resulted in thirty-two felony arrests and six misdemeanor arrests. Officer Chaudion's efforts in traffic enforcement resulted in 215 citations, 141 warnings, and four arrests for operating a vehicle while intoxicated. Officer Chaudion was also nominated for this prestigious award in 2016 for his efforts in 2015. In addition, Chief Jimmie Durnil was presented with the Northside Exchange Club s Lifetime of Service Award for his forty-five year career in law enforcement.
FORMER ELLETTSVILLE RESERVE OFFICER HIRED BY IUPD MAY 16, 2017 On May 16, 2017 former Reserve Deputy Marshal Mark Norris started his new position with the Indiana University Police Department (Bloomington). Officer Norris was sworn in by Chief Laury Flint. Officer Norris will now begin a field training program before patrolling solo. ELLETTSVILLE POLICE DEPARTMENT HOSTS CEREMONY FOR NATIONAL PEACE OFFICERS MEMORIAL DAY MAY 15, 2017 On Monday, May 15, 2017 law enforcement agencies from Monroe County came together at the Ellettsville Town Hall to remember those officers that have made the ultimate sacrifice in the line of duty. May 15 marked the beginning of National Police Week, a week established by President Kennedy and Congress in 1962.
