RECREATION student life FALL 2018 Program Guide

FITNESS FACILITY & CLASSES Access cards to fitness facilities are available for purchase at a cost of $10 from the administration office (ASHNOLA Building). FACILITIES Access cards to fitness facilities are available for purchase. Pay your $10 fee at the administration office and bring your receipt to PC 146 for processing. For fitness center hours, follow the link below and choose the Penticton option. Note that hours are subject to change depending on activities that may arise. okanagan.bc.ca/recreation TRAINING & ORIENTATION A personal trainer can design a program best suited to help you achieve your fitness goals. Personal programs cost $75 for students and $150 for staff and include three sessions. Or if you would prefer to learn to use the equipment in a group setting with no more than four people, consider booking an appointment for a weight room orientation. To book your personal training sessions or a group orientation, please contact the Athletics, Recreation and Student Life office (PC 146) or call Jo Ann at 250-492-4305, ext. 3274. SPORTS AND EVENTS Sign up for activities and events at the Athletics, Recreation and Student Life Office (PC 146). Sports activities are free of charge and take place in PC 145 (gymnasium) and PC 148 (fitness center). 2

FITNESS FACILITY & CLASSES Join us for fun and fitness! CLASSES ENTRY LEVEL EXERCISE Join fellow students who are learning how to exercise in our fitness facility. We ll cover general knowledge about exercise and proper use of equipment. Note: The fitness center will be closed to all other users at this time. Dates: Wed, Sept. 19 & Mon, Sept. 24 Time: Sept. 19, 5:30-6:30 p.m. Sept. 24, 3-4 p.m. Cost: Free Location: PC 148 - Fitness Center Register By: Mon, Sept. 17 TABATA Take part in a challenging workout designed to build strength, stamina and cardiovascular fitness. Date & Time: TBD: See the Athletics, Recreation and Student Life office (PC 146) Location: PC 145 (gymnasium) Fee: $20 for students; $35 for staff FALL BOOTCAMP Sign up for a challenging full body workout that will help you feel and look your best. Note: two separate classes will be offered this fall. Register for one or both if you like. Dates: Mon, Sept. 24 - Nov. 26 OR Thu, Sept. 27 - Nov. 15 Times: Mon, 3-4 p.m. OR Thu, 9:30-10:30 a.m. Location: PC 145 (gymnasium) Fee: $20 for students; $35 for staff WORKOUT WEDNESDAYS Come to the gym for a workout, enter your name for an amazing prize and leave your workout feeling great about your accomplishment Dates: First Wednesday of the Month - Sept. 5, Oct. 3, Nov. 7 and Dec. 5 FLOURISH WITH YOGA This beginner yoga class will help foster your mind and body connection through gentle stretches and relaxation, reducing stress and improving your wellbeing. As part of the Flourish Wellness Project, classes are offered on a drop-in basis and are open to all OC students and employees. Yoga mats provided or bring your own. Dates: Thu, Sept. 13 - Nov. 29 Times: 12:05-12:50 p.m. Location: PC 113 FLOURISH Fee: Free for students, $5/ class for OC employees or $50 for the session okanagan.bc.ca/recreation 3

CAMPUS EVENTS Sign up for all events at the Athletics, Recreation and Student Life office (PC 146) SEPTEMBER BEACH DAY Extend summer and join us at Okanagan Beach (by the SS Sicamous) for a relaxing and fun summertime beach day. The first 10 people to sign up get beach gear and all who show up will be eligible for draw prizes. Build a sand castle to enter in the sand castle contest. Date: Fri, Sept. 7 Time: 1-4 p.m. Register by: Thu, Sept. 6 BIKE THE KVR TRAIL Bring your bike and join us for a ride down the gorgeous Kettle Valley Railway trail. We ll provide healthy snacks at the end of the ride. Please register so we know you ll be joining us. Date: Sat, Sept. 15 (weather permitting) Time: 1-3 pm. Location: Meet at Vancouver Place cul-de-sac in Penticton Register by: Thu, Sept. 13 BEACH VOLLEYBALL TOURNAMENT Try out our newly improved beach volleyball courts. Sign up as a team of three or individually and we ll put you on a team. Prizes to the top two teams. Date: Fri, Sept. 21 Time: 3:30-5 p.m. Location: Beach court behind Sunoka building Register by: Wed, Sept. 19 4

Report back to the Athletics, Rec and Student Life office with your score. Prizes for the top two ping pong players. Free to enter. Dates: Oct. 1 - Nov. 15 Times: You decide Location: PC 145 Register by: Tue, Sept. 25 BOARD GAMES PIZZA PARTY Drop in for a free evening of frivolous fun and fantastic fraternizing. We ll have plenty of board games on hand including Pictionary, Cranium, Battleship and more. Date: Thu, Oct. 11 Time: 6:30-8:30 p.m. Location: OC Grounds Cafeteria DROP IN VOLLEYBALL Drop into the gym with your friends to polish up your volleyball skills and have a little fun. Dates: Thu, Oct. 18 Times: 3:30-5:30 p.m. DROP IN BASKETBALL Drop into the gym to play and meet other basketball enthusiasts. Use this time to get in basketball shape for the upcoming 3-on-3 league. Date: Wed, Oct. 3-24 Time: 3:30-5:30 p.m. HALLOWEEN HOWLER Join in this Halloween spooktacular event. Dress up to enter into our costume contest for a chance to win some great prizes! Partake in our pumpkin carving or stop by for some free candy. It s sure to be a scary good time. And, if we catch you wearing your costume around campus, we ll give you a candy bag. Date: Wed, Oct. 31 Time: 11-1 p.m. Location: PC 113 (Community Hall) Halloween Howler Wednesday, Oct. 31 11 a.m. - 1 p.m. FREE Put on your costume and join us at the annual Halloween party. Date: Mon, Nov. 19 Time: 4:30-5:30 p.m. Location: PC 145 (OC Gymnasium) HOLIDAY SPIRIT EVENT The holidays are just around the corner and we ll help you get in the spirit. Make holiday ornaments, design your own holiday cards, decorate sugar cookies and so much more. Date: Wed, Nov. 28 Time: 11 a.m. - 1 p.m. Location: PC 113 (Community Hall) FLOURISH WELLNESS WEDNESDAYS WITH FLOURISH A series of FREE free drop in workshops designed to create a safe space so you can get curious about what YOU need to flourish. Learn strategies, connect with supports, and grow your ability to manage stress enabling you to be a more successful student. LUNCHEON SERIES OC POTLUCK SERIES This is a monthly event for all OC students and staff to get together to have some great food while having the chance to socialize with each other. Please bring your favourite dish, and you never know what sort of games we may have cooked up. Dates: Wed, Sept. 12, Nov. 14 & Dec. 5 Time: 11:30 a.m. - 1 p.m. Location: Aboriginal Student Lounge INDIAN TACO SALE AND DIRE STRAITS FUNDRAISER At this event, we will be selling Indian Tacos for $5 each; all the proceeds raised will go to the Dire Straits Fund. This Fund helps support Okanagan College students that experience financial emergencies. Date: Wed, Oct. 17 Time: 11 a.m. - 1 p.m. Location: PC113 (Community Hall) TASTE OF INDIA Come and celebrate a taste of Indian food, music and culture.
