The parcel maps will create a flag lot in the rear of 5424 Temple City Boulevard and will split the lot at 9632 Lemon Avenue. Page 3 of 6 REPORTS FROM CITY DEPARTMENTS Youth Committee Updates MANAGEMENT SERVICES DEPARTMENT (submitted by B. Ariizumi and P. Kuo) The Youth Committee presented their pedestrian and bicyclist safety study to the Transportation and Public Safety Commission on Wednesday, Jan. 24. The Commission suggested the Committee to work with the City s traffic engineer (i.e., Transtech) to identify possible solutions for improving traffic safety near Temple City High School. On Feb. 22, 4 p.m., in the Council Chambers, the Committee will host a special meeting with Transtech engineers to discuss proposed traffic safety options. Law Enforcement Update The following provides a summary of trends and activities for November and December 2017, as reported by Temple Sheriff s Station. Crimes are down for robberies, burglaries and petty thefts. The above trends mirror regional trends. Proactive patrolling, and probation and undercover operations remain in effect. COMMUNITY DEVELOPMENT DEPARTMENT (submitted by S. Reimers) Removing Holiday Lights and Decorations The Community Preservation Division hopes everyone had a happy holiday season. As a friendly reminder, per Temple City Municipal Code 4-2C-2(A)(16) seasonal displays like Christmas lights and other holiday decorations must be removed within 15 days of the end of the holiday being commemorated. This means that Christmas lights and decorations should have been removed by Jan. 16, 2018. The Community Preservation
Page 5 of 6 Inspectors are in the process of canvassing the entire city and reminding residents of this requirement. Since Jan. 22, the Inspectors have made contact with 138 residents. PARKS AND RECREATION DEPARTMENT (submitted by C. Burroughs) Live Oak Park Athletic Fields Turf Renovations After being closed for two months, the athletic fields at Live Oak Park are scheduled to re-open to the public on Monday, Feb. 5. Closed since early December, the fields underwent annual turf renovations, which included aerating, top-dressing, and overseeding. Lunar New Year Celebration Temple City welcomes the Year of the Dog this Saturday, Feb. 3 at the annual Lunar New Year Celebration in Temple City Park. Festivities begin at 1 p.m. and include free samplings of traditional Chinese cuisine, beautiful cultural pageantry like the lion dance, and a variety of youth and adult performances. Scheduled entertainment includes the Wong Tai Sen Lion Dance Team performing the tradition Lion Dance, The Monkey King Chinese Opera, Glory Star Children s Chorus, and much more. Nominations for Outstanding Older American Do you know a Temple City resident, 60 years or over, who is actively involved in our community, volunteering invaluable time to service organizations, schools, churches, or even just their neighbors? Page 6 of 6 Dim Sum and Tea The Temple City Parks & Recreation Department is excited to once again offer free Dim Sum & tea to park visitors on Wednesday, Feb. 21 from 10:30 a.m. 12:00 p.m. (while supplies last). Stop by the picnic shelter at Live Oak Park for your free samples. Arbor Day Poster and Photo Contest As part of the City s Arbor Day Celebration, the Parks and Recreation Department is encouraging students in 3 rd 8 th grade to participate in the state-wide Arbor Week Poster and Photo Contest. Students are asked to create original artwork based on the theme Healthy Trees, Healthy Me! Submissions are due to the Live Oak Park Annex no later than Tuesday, Feb. 6, 2018, at 5:00 p.m. Winners of the contest will be recognized at the March 6 City Council meeting. All entries will be on display during the City s Arbor Day Celebration on March 7. Additional information is available by calling (626) 656-7321. Registration Open for Spring Sports Registration is currently being accepted at the Live Oak Park Community Center for the City s mini and youth soccer programs and youth track & field program. All practices and games will be held at Live Oak Park beginning in late March. Space is limited so early registration is recommended. Temple City s Got Talent Do you sing, dance, play an instrument or have another talent you can t wait to share? Temple City s Parks and Recreation Department is once again hosting the annual Temple City s Got Talent event. The Talent Showcase will take place on Saturday, April 7, 2018, from 5:00 p.m. 8:00 p.m. at the Live Oak Park Community Center. Auditions will be conducted on Thursday, March 1 and Friday, March 2 from 2:00 p.m. 5:00 p.m. at the Live Oak Park Annex. Auditions are open to all persons, regardless of age, or residency.
