Lee Leumas will explore the recovery effort of the Office of Archives and Records following Hurricane Katrina. (2) Mercy Care Project: What Happens After the Archives Have Merged? Rosedown Panelists: Grant Gerlich, Archivist/Director, Mercy Heritage Center Betsy Johnson, Assistant Archivist, Mercy Heritage Center Mary Ann Gschwind, FSPA, Vice President of ACWR Description: During the realignment of the Sisters of Marcy of the Americas, The Mercy Heritage Center was created to become the central repository for the records of Mercy communities throughout the United States. As collections arrive, staff members have begun to consider how best to manage a large group of distinct collections. This session will explore the assessment of collections within the framework of maintaining and affirming the identity of each community while streamlining and updating collecting management, preservation planning and description. 9:00 10:30 a.m. THIRD PLENARY SESSION International Ballroom Canonical Concerns for Archivists of Religious Congregations Speaker: Nancy Reynolds, SP, JCL, General Treasurer, Sisters of Providence Louise Grundish, SC, ACWR incoming Vice President Description: This presentation will give the canonical norms necessary for archivists to know with regard to all aspects of their congregational archives 10:30 11:00 a.m. BREAK Stretching and H 2 0 11:00 2:15 p.m. CONCURRENT SESSIONS 3 and 4 (3) Preservation of Paper Documents Rosedown Speaker: Tanya Zanish-Belcher, Associate Professor and Department Head, Special Collections, Iowa State University Mary Ann Gschwind, FSPA, ACWR Vice President Description: This presentation will review the basics of how to preserve papers and photographs. Topics will include how to assess and organize collections, collections policies, recommendations for re-housing and ordering supplies, and developing a long range plan for the preservation, conservation and care of collections. There will also be time for questions! (4) Disaster Planning Nottoway A Speaker: Andy Corrigan, Associate Dean of Libraries and Chief Collections Officer at Tulane University Rose Marie Martin, OP, ACWR President 5

Description: In the wake of Hurricane Katrina in 2005, more than 1.5 million books and folders of archival manuscripts were underwater for several weeks at Tulane s main library and its adjacent building for special collections. Learn the pros, cons and our experiences when implementing the program. 4PastPerfect Rose Marie Martin, OP and Gretchen Sills, OP This presentation will cover the use of PastPerfect software program from a user s perspective. 4Access Databases Marian Voelker, OSF This presentation will include the efficiency and versatility in the use of Microsoft Office Access program in conjunction with other Microsoft Office programs and networking with staff members using other databases. (6) Integrating Records Management into Archives Nottoway A Speakers: Mary Denis Maher, CSA and Mary Serbacki, OSF Mary Ann Gschwind, FSPA, ACWR Vice President 6

Description: As records migrate from active to inactive to archives, cooperation between Records Managers and Archivists is key to the preservation, access, and integrity of the documents. Understanding the roles of each group and the coordination needed is critical, especially in congregations where the functions are handled by different people.
