Volume 56 Issue 20 Issue Date: April 21, 2011 Next Meeting: April 26, 2011 Linda Gallicchio Associate Director for Outreach at the Rutland Institute for Ethics Clemson University Linda Gallicchio is the associate director for outreach at the Rutland Institute for Ethics at Clemson University. The institute s mission is to nurture an ethical environment in various life communities. Linda is chiefly responsible for building relationships, and growing the Rutland Ethics Alliance, a member organization to support the work of the institute since funding cuts have imperiled it. A member of the Rotary Club of Anderson, Linda is her club s membership chair and is the president-elect nominee (2012-2013). She also chairs District 7750 s Four-Way Test Committee. Linda received her MBA, with distinction, from the State University of New York at Buffalo. She has more than 22 years of experience in managerial and executive roles across a variety of industries. Prior to her move to Upstate SC in 2006, she lived and worked in Kentucky, Massachusetts, Virginia, California and New York. Message From President Charles Warne President, Charles Warne, is in California this week enjoying some well earned time off. As you know, Charles has been working diligently on our District project for the Haitian people. This is yet another example of what our Foundation contributions can do: HAITI What can my small gift accomplish? $20 Provides farm tools $25 Provides fruit trees $50 Provides seasonal seeds for a year $100 Provides agricultural aid for a year $120 Treats a malnourished child $150 Gives a goat to a family $250 Provides for a family in the Family Assistance Program $2000 Provides a scholarship to the new Vocational School You are supporting our District s projects in Haiti that are helping to create a sustainable healthy living environment within Cange. Congratulations Rotarians The Greenville YWCA recognized three members of our Club at the 2011 Women of Achievement Awards held at the Carolina First Center on April 7. Dr. Judith Prince was honored as a Woman of Achievement in the Education category. New members Erika Cannon and Nika White were recognized as 2011 Dream Achievers. Former Rotary Ambassadorial Scholar and new Rotaract member, Cindy Youssef, was recognized as a Dream Achiever and Minor Shaw, spouse of Club member Hal Shaw, was recognized as a Woman of Achievement in the Philanthropy category. Congratulations to these phenomenal women! GADC President & CEO Jerry Howard presented Nancy Whitworth (shown below), economic development director for the City of Greenville, with the seventh annual William D. Workman III Buffalo Hunter Award, the GADC's highest economic development honor. A native of Abbeville County, Ms. Whitworth played a leading role in dozens of significant economic development projects impacting Greenville County, including West End Market, Fluor Field, the Peace Center, Falls Park, Southwest Airlines, Lab21 and Proterra.

Volunteers Needed - Stars and Stripes Cycling Event on May 29th! Save the Date The Downtown Rotary Club of Greenville has again partnered with the Palmetto Peloton Project to raise money for cancer research! The Palmetto Peloton Project is hosting its annual Stars and Stripes Challenge Ride on Sunday, May 29th. This is a popular recreational cycling event held in conjunction with USA Cycling Professional Championships weekend. The proceeds from the event are donated to cancer research. The Downtown Rotary Club needs volunteers to staff this event. We need course marshals and registration assistants. You can email: clubadmin@greenvillerotary.org to sign-up. Your families and friends are welcome to join you. Children must be at least 10 years old to volunteer. Additionally, you can help by either registering to ride in the race or by donating. If you are riding, you are welcome to register with the Rotary of Greenville team.
