The ASQ Bimedical Divisin strives t be the leading authrity and resurce fr everyne in the Bimedical Cmmunity wh seeks quality cncepts, technlgy and tls t imprve bimedical prducts and themselves. The ASQ Bimedical Divisin has established the William J. Feingld Schlarship Prgram t further its visin by: Prmting the awareness and the use f quality principles, cncepts, and technlgies t students within the Bimedical Cmmunity, Prviding learning pprtunities relating t quality fr the wrldwide Bimedical Cmmunity, Encuraging cnsideratin f the Quality Prfessin in the Bimedical Cmmunity as a career chice. The schlarship is an award f up t $5000 t be presented t an individual enrlled in an accredited university r cllege wh, in the pinin f the selectin cmmittee, fulfills the acceptance criteria. Cmpleted applicatins must be submitted t the Awards Cmmittee. SPECIAL CONSIDERATIONS One r mre William J. Feingld Schlarship may be awarded annually. Applicants ging int their third year f undergraduate study are preferred recipients f the schlarship award. A recipient f the schlarship may apply fr a secnd award if they are able t demnstrate thrugh their studies and cmmunity activities exceptinal cmmitment t the quality issues f the Bimedical Cmmunity. A recipient shall nt receive mre than tw William J. Feingld Schlarships. William J. Feingld was twice the Chair f the ASQ Bimedical Divisin in 1988 and 1992 and was a mentr t many f the members. President f Spektra Management Cnsultants (Carlsbad, CA) since 1987, Mr. Feingld was active in the medical device industry fr nearly half a century. He held high-level psitins in quality assurance and manufacturing fr such cmpanies as Crdis Crp., Critikn, Advanced Cardivascular Systems, Sntek Crp. and was a member f MD&DI's editrial bard since 1988. ELIGIBILITY The applicants must fulfill the fllwing requirements: Applicants shall have cmpleted at least tw years f undergraduate study at an accredited degree granting institutin by the time they receive the schlarship Applicants are enrlled in r have a declared majr in a technical, engineering, r scientific curse f study that is applicable t the Bimedical Cmmunity. The applicant shall have at least a 3.0 GPA (based n a 4.0 scale) Applicants enrlled in a Graduate Degree prgram are eligible fr the schlarship. Relatives f the members f the Awards Cmmittee are nt eligible fr the schlarship.
William J. Feingld Schlarship Prgram APPLICATION All applicants fr the William J. Feingld Schlarship shall cmplete and submit the attached applicatin frm. All applicatin material must be submitted t the Awards Cmmittee. In additin t the cmpleted frm, each applicatin shall include: An fficial transcript f cmpleted undergraduate r graduate wrk t date shwing curses taken, subjects, and grades. Letters f reference frm at least three persns, ne f whm shall be a current regular, senir, fellw, r hnrary member f the American Sciety fr Quality. An essay f at least 500 wrds n Why Quality Systems are imprtant in the Bimedical Cmmunity. SELECTION This is an award that may be based n assessing multiple applicants. The ASQ Bimedical Divisin reserves the right t limit the number f schlarships per year and t make n award if the Awards Cmmittee determines that nne f the applicants meets the requirements. Selectin preference criteria fr awarding the schlarship shall include: AWARD The award will be depsited in the recipient s accunt with the business ffice f the institutin designated in the applicatin upn receipt f cnfirmatin frm the institutin stating the recipient has been registered fr the upcming sessin. Recipients will be ntified that they have been awarded the schlarship and will be invited t attend the WCQI as the guest f the ASQ Bimedical Divisin fr a frmal presentatin f the schlarship. Applicants in a technical r scientific curse f study related t medical prducts have preference ver ther applicants. Applicants with a demnstrated cntributin r participatin in activities related t quality in the Bimedical Cmmunity are preferred. Applicants with a higher GPA and/r cmpelling essay will have preference. The Awards Cmmittee f the Bimedical Divisin shall recmmend t the Bimedical Cuncil the recipient(s) f the schlarship(s). The Cuncil shall cnsider and accept r reject each award by vice vte at a regularly scheduled meeting f the Bimedical Cuncil.
