40 Days of Lent and Service Programming March 4 - April 8, 2017 Be a part of the St. Mary s University commitment to service during Lent. March 1-15 Food and Clothes Donation Drive for Catholic Charities Donation stations for various needed items will be in the lobby of each of the residence halls for donations. 4 Continuing the Heritage 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Meet at 8:15 a.m. on the Flex Field Join the community to work with nonprofits across the city in service work. 4, 14, 28, April 8 Rattler Athletics: Lenten Book Drive at The Park at St. Mary s Donate gently used K-12 books at various home games for children from Holy Rosary Parish and the neighborhood at the StMU softball game on April 8.

Donation bins will be available at the Alumni Athletics & Convocation Center entrance, the University Center, the Law Classrooms Building and St. Louis Hall. For information, email edalton@stmarytx.edu. 8 Stop Hunger Now Service Day 4:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. University Center, Conference Room A Prepare more than 10,000 meals to ship throughout the world to support school food programs, orphanages and crisis relief. For information, contact jkraft@stmarytx.edu. 11-18 Alternative Break and Immersion Programs Students and staff will spend time in St. Louis, San Antonio and Guayaquil, Ecuador, learning about issues of justice and engaging in acts of service. For more information on how to be involved with future immersion trips please contact the Office of Civic Engagement at civicengagement@stmarytx.edu. 16 Donation Sorting 3 to 5 p.m. Anthony Frederick Hall Lounge Sort donation items to prepare for delivery to Catholic Charities. 17 Service Day and Donation Delivery at Guadalupe Community Center 1 to 5 p.m. Meet in front of Anthony Frederick Hall at 12:30 p.m. Deliver donated items to the Guadalupe Community Center.

24-26 Shrine of San Juan Pilgrimage University Ministry s Hispanic Ministry Outreach will lead a pilgrimage to the Shrine of San Juan where students will spend a day of service with the Catholic Campus Ministry of the Diocese of Brownsville. For information, email jmatosauffant@stmarytx.edu. 25 Special Olympics 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. Volunteer with a soccer competition as part of the Special Olympics events at McAllister Park. For information, email kwilliams@stmarytx.edu. 26, April 8 Hang Time at the Children s Shelter 9 a.m. to noon Volunteer at the Children s Shelter one Saturday a month. Volunteers spend time with the children, play games, and do arts and crafts. 29 Women s Work: Preparing for Success - Clothing Collection and Presentation 10:20 to 11:10 a.m. University Center, Conference Room B Hear a presentation by Dress for Success on the need for professional attire and preparation for women, and donate gently used women s professional clothing. 30 Blood Drive 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. University Center, Conference Room B Register or walk in to participate in the first blood drive of the semester. Donations to the Texas Blood Bank are critical to the health and well-being of our community.

Events Running Throughout Lent Saturdays in Lent: Walk the Missions University Ministry will lead groups of students in prayer along the mission trail of San Antonio and discuss the challenges of the poor in San Antonio. For information, email jmatosauffant@stmarytx.edu. Wednesday Mass and Manna 12:15 p.m. Treadaway Hall, Guadalupe Chapel Bring nonperishable/canned food items to Mass for the Catholic Charities food pantry. A light potluck lunch will be offered after Mass. 40 Cans for Lent Bins will be placed in the University Center, AA&CC and Cotrell Learning Commons to collect canned food. Donations will be given to Catholic Charities and the Guadalupe Community Center for their food pantries. Greeks Give Back: Members of Greek Life will be volunteering with various community partners in San Antonio throughout Lent. See below for specifics on the work they ll be engaging with during this season. March 8, 15, 22, 29 Sigma Beta Chi Mentoring at Good Samaritan Community Services Weekly mentoring by members of Sigma Beta Chi at Good Sam Community Services.
