Please reference the housing assignment email if you have questions) 8:00 a.m. 5:30 p.m. Orientation Check-In Location: Argyros Forum, Room 209 8:30 a.m. 4:30 p.m. Parents Ambassador Council Welcome Booths Location: Under the red canopies between Pralle-Sodaro & Henley, Glass Residence Hall and the Masson Family Beach Club, and near Argyros Forum and Leatherby Libraries Parents Ambassador Council members welcome you with refreshments and resource materials to help you and your student get settled into the Chapman community. 3:30 4:30 p.m. Cross-Cultural Parent Reception Location: Argyros Forum, Room 304 (Cross-Cultural Center) The Cross-Cultural Center invites parents to come meet staff and faculty that provide resources and support for our students of diverse backgrounds and identities. Parent Reception for New Disciples of Christ/United Church of Christ Students Location: Wilkinson Founders Chapel, Fish Interfaith Center Parents/families of students who come from congregations related to the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) or the United Church of Christ are strongly encouraged to come to the one hour information session about the Disciples on Campus program. You will receive helpful information on scholarships and opportunities for your student. Please come without your student to this event. Commuter Student and Family Meet and Greet Location: Argyros Forum, Room 201 Welcome Commuters! Here, our new first-year commuter students and families can meet current Chapman commuter students. Learn a few tips and tricks directly from our student panel as well as a small presentation by Director of Residence Life and First Year Experience, Dave Sundby.

Welcome to the Chapman family. 5:15 6:30 p.m. Department of Art Meet & Greet Location: Guggenheim Gallery Students studying fine art and their families will be able to get a better look at the facilities, classrooms & studios. Students will also get to mix and mingle with one another, faculty members, and department heads. 7:00 8:00 p.m. Opening Convocation Location: Wilson Field Students please enter the Field through the North Gate and find a seat beginning at 6:15 pm Families proceed to the bleachers of Wilson Field through any gates. Convocation will begin promptly at 7:00 pm This traditional event is the formal opening to Chapman s academic year. Faculty in full regalia march in procession and President Struppa officially launches the semester. Dr. Amir Raz, Professor and Director of the Institute for Interdisciplinary Brain and Behavioral Sciences will give the annual Aims of Education inspirational address. After Convocation, Orientation will officially begin. At the Conclusion of this Program, Families please remain seated as students exit through the North gate and proceed to the Residence Halls for a Mandatory Residence Life Meeting if they will be living on campus or to the Beckman Hall 4 th Floor Patio for the Commuter Student Social. Once students have exited, families are welcome to attend the Wine and Cheese Reception hosted by Dr. Jerry Price, Vice President for Student Affairs and Dean of Students in Argyros Forum. *Note: Please be prepared for a delay between Opening Convocation and the Wine and Cheese reception. 8:00 9:30 p.m. Wine and Cheese Welcome Reception for Parents and Families Location: Argyros Forum, Student Union Join Vice President for Student Affairs and Dean of Students Dr. Jerry Price and other new Chapman families for some relaxation and conversation. Dr. Nina LeNoir, Vice Provost for Undergraduate Education, and representatives from the Academic Advising Center, Tutoring, Learning, and Testing Center, Leatherby Libraries, Center for Global Education, Career and Professional Development, and the Center for Undergraduate Excellence will share information and answer questions about their available resources. 11:30 a.m. 6:00 p.m. Parents Ambassador Council Welcome Booth Location: Under the red canopy on the north side of Memorial Hall Visit with Parents Ambassador Council (PAC) members to learn more about resources for Chapman parents, tips on supporting your student for their greatest success, and how to become involved with the University and the PAC. Hear from current Greek students, staff and alumni about the fraternity and sorority chapters, Greek programs and events, and the benefits of this involvement opportunity. Please bring any questions you may have. 4:00 5:45 p.m. Student Services Fair Location: Argyros Forum, First Floor Come mingle with other new students and families as you explore booths representing over 20 on-campus departments. There will also be cool mocktails and helpful safety tips provided by C.A.R.E.S. (Creating a Rape-Free Environment for Students). Business Office Workshop Location: Beckman Hall, Room 104 Representatives from the Business Office will answer your questions regarding billing, loans, and scholarships. Both families and students are welcome to attend. Financial Aid and Loan Entrance Counseling Location: Beckman Hall, Room 206A This session is for students who have not yet completed their Subsidized/Unsubsidized Direct Loan Entrance Counseling and/or Master Promissory Notes. Students whose parents have yet to complete the Parent PLUS Direct Loan information will also be notified to attend. Computers will be available for use and a Financial Aid representative will be there for assistance. Please note: if you refused your loans prior to completing the Entrance Counseling or Master Promissory Note, you do NOT need to attend this session. Cyber Self Defense Workshop Location: Beckman Hall, Room 103 Become a cyber-hero! Learn to spot scams, protect your credit cards online, and keep your social media from being hacked. Meet an FBI Cyber Crimes Special Agent, and Chapman students from a Schmid College Grand Challenges Initiative Team at this interactive workshop. Everyone welcome! 4:15 4:45 p.m. Singapore Flag Dedication Location: Ambassador George L. Argyros Global Citizens Plaza With a student population representing more than 60 countries and over 50 percent of our students participating in study abroad programs, global citizenship is a priority at Chapman. The Global Citizens Plaza symbolizes our dedication to expanding perspectives as a hallmark of the Chapman Experience. 4:30 6:30 p.m. College of Performing Arts Welcome Reception Location: Lindquist Esplanade (next to Waltmar Theatre) This reception is an opportunity to meet new students in the College of Performing Arts as well as some of the faculty and administration with whom you will be interacting while at Chapman. This reception is for declared Theater, Theater Performance, Music Education, Composition, Screen Acting, Dance, Performance, and Music majors. 5:00 6:00 p.m. School of Pharmacy Family Info Session Location: Argyros Forum, Room 201 Dr. Laura Cook, Director of the Freshman Early Assurance Program, will facilitate an information session for new families to learn more about the program and how you play a role in the success of your student. 5:45 6:15 p.m. Undeclared Parent/Student Panel Location: Beckman Hall, Room 404 The Academic Advising Center and current Chapman students will discuss what it is like navigating academics as an undeclared student. 5:00 7:30 p.m. College/School Welcome Dinners Please attend dinner at the location of your student s declared major. This is an opportunity to meet new students in your School/College as well as some of the faculty and administration with whom you will be interacting while at Chapman. Food line for groups in the Attallah Piazza, Hutton Sports Center, Aitken Arts Plaza, Gray Victory Way, Bert Williams Mall, Musco Center for the Arts, and the Performer s Court is near Schmid Gate. 5:00 6:00 p.m. Wilkinson College of Arts, Humanities, and Social Sciences Location: Aitken Arts Plaza This dinner is for students who are declared Political Science, Peace Studies, Spanish, French, Creative Writing, English, Art, Art History, Graphic Design, Religious Studies, Sociology, and Philosophy majors. Attallah College of Educational Studies Location: Musco Center for the Arts, Performer s Court This dinner is for declared Integrated Educational Studies majors. Undeclared Students Location: Aitken Arts Plaza 7:45 8:15 p.m. Pillars of Your Education, Candle Lighting Ceremony Location: Attallah Piazza Incoming Chapman students, parents and families are invited to gather around the fountain in the Attallah Piazza to celebrate the pillars of Chapman University symbolizing our intellectual, spiritual, social and physical life. This brief ceremony will end with candle lighting as we bid goodbye to families and welcome you to the Chapman family! This event officially concludes Family Orientation. If available, please attend the Parent and Family Farewell Reception hosted by Dean Gail Sterns. 8:15 9:30 p.m. Parent and Family Farewell Reception Location: The Fish Interfaith Center Dean Gail Stearns invites parents and new Chapman families to a Farewell reception with wine, sparkling cider and dessert following the Candle Lighting Ceremony.
