5 Phases of OCS Phase I is the first step in the OCS commissioning process. During this phase candidates will conduct land navigation, a field leadership exercise, a 6-Mile Foot March, Military Justice Exam, Leadership Exam, ATMS Exam and Peer Evaluations. Phase II makes up the bulk of a candidates OCS experience. Phase II is conducted once a month for 11 months. During this phase candidates will conduct a field leadership exercise, a 9 and 12-mile foot march and a 5-mile formation run. Also, the candidates will cover Operations, Leadership doctrine, Military Justice, Military Intelligence, Supply activities, Military Heritage and History, Tactics, Call for Fire and Communicative skills. Phase III is the last step in the OCS commissioning process, this phase covers troop leading procedures, the leadership reaction course, the final field leadership exercise, infantry squad tactics, combat water survival training, tactical exercise without troops (TEWT), evaluated Squad and Platoon FTX lanes.

8 Minuteman Scholarship What it is: 2, 3 or 4 year GRFD Scholarship. Only National Guard and Army Reserves offers this Scholarship. Target Audience: High School Seniors or first year college bound applicants seeking BA or BS for 4 years of benefits. Scholarships Minuteman (2-4yr) (Focus on 4 year students) 100% tuition and mandatory fees OR Room and Board up to ($10,000) if using NGEAP A $1200 per academic year book allowance A stipend based on academic status: - $300/month Freshman - $350/month Sophomore - $450/month Junior - $500/month Senior Can use in conjunction with State Tuition Reimbursement Promoted to E-5 Graduate with a degree and zero debt Minuteman Timeline October-March Packet Builds March All packets to OSM Office (OML Established) April TAG Recommendation Board May Expect Approval Results June 15 - Open Season August Contract w/rotc and awarded scholarship Example for Freshman at Iowa State University in FY 18 Stipend 300/month for 9 months of school = $2,700 Tuition at ISU (NGEAP) = $7,466 Room & Board = $10,000 Book Stipend = $1,200 E-5 drill/smp/at = $4, TOTAL = $25,698.17
9 Minuteman Scholarship Be a United States citizen Criteria for Scholarship Be between the ages of 17 and 30 (Must not have turned 31 by DEC 31 st of commissioning year Must be a high school graduate before 01 SEP of the year awarded Valid MEPS physical Acceptance letter to college Proof of academic major Ability to pass APFT and HT/WT CGPA of 2.5 from college or high school Minimum ACT of 21 or SAT of 1000 Initiate security clearance (SF86) PMS recommendation TAG recommendation
10 Minuteman Scholarship Process SEP OCT NOV DEC JAN FEB MAR APR MAY JUN JUL AUG Build Packets - Units, Commanders, RRNCOs identify potential candidates - Pre-qualify all applicants - ROTC interview with PMS - All packets to OSM in MAR - OML established -TY 17 Results: 21 packets received, 21 packets approved - The Minuteman Scholarship can be awarded before being qualified (BT/AIT) but can t be used until qualified Recommendation Board - applicants selected based off OML Scholarship Awarded - Contract with ROTC Open Season - ARNG offers 324 scholarships, if they are not awarded by 15JUN, it becomes a first come, first serve - OML driven - CASAs (Civilian Aid to the Secretary of the Army) 2 in the state of Iowa. Can recommend additional Minuteman Scholarships
11 GRFD Scholarship What it is: 2,3 year GRFD (Guaranteed Reserve Forces Duty) Scholarship. GRFD Scholarships is a dedicated Guard or Reserves Option. Target Audience: Current guard members or sophomores attending universities that offer ROTC Scholarships GRFD (2 & 3 yr) 100% tuition and mandatory fees OR Room and Board up to ($10,000) if using NGEAP A $1200 per academic year book allowance A stipend based on academic status: - $350/month Sophomore - $450/month Junior - $500/month Senior Can use in conjunction with State Tuition Reimbursement Promoted to E-5 Example for Sophomore at Iowa State University in FY 18 Stipend 350/month for 9 months of school = $3,150 Tuition at ISU (NGEAP) = $7,466 Room & Board = $10,000 Book Stipend = $1,200 E-5 drill/smp/at = $4, TOTAL = $26,148.37
12 GRFD Scholarship Criteria for Scholarship Be a United States citizen Be between the ages of 17 to 30 for scholarship soldiers (must commission by age 30) Possess a high school diploma, or equivalent Have a cumulative GPA of 2.5 or higher Be medically qualified through DODMERB Be able to pass the Army Physical Fitness Test Meet HT/WT standards
13 SMP Non Scholarship What it is: 2,3 year program with the option to access active duty. This program allows for the use of federal T/A or GI Bill. In conjunction with NGEAP. Target Audience: Current members of the IAARNG that are MOSQ seeking BA or BS. SMP Non Scholarship (2 & 3 yr program) Tuition paid thru Federal T/A, GI Bill in conjunction with NGEAP A $1200 per academic year book allowance A stipend based on academic status: - $350/month Sophomore - $450/month Junior - $500/month Senior $350/month GI Bill Kicker Commission in 2 years Promoted to E-5 Example for Sophomore at University of Iowa in FY 18 Stipend/ $350/month at approx. 9 months of school = $3,150 GI Bill /$367/ month (9 months) = $3,303 GI Bill Kicker /$350/ (9 months) = $3,150 Book Stipend = $1,200 E-5 drill/smp/at = $4, Tuition at UI (NGEAP) = $7,466 TOTAL = $22,601.37
14 SMP Non-Scholarship Criteria for Program At least 17-years-old within the first semester Less than age 34 on December 30 of the commissioning year (no waiver) Less than age 39 on December 30 of the commissioning year (with a waiver) Successfully pass a medical exam and have no temporary or permanent profiles (use MEPS if < 2 years old) Pass the Army Physical Fitness Test with no alternate events (60/60/60) (to enroll in the program) Be of high moral character (NO OWI arrests or felonies) Must be in the program prior to start of Junior Year

16 Basic Training Basic to Training BOLC to (BT2BOLC) BOLC What is BT to BOLC? BT to BOLC was designed to streamline the wait time for soldiers who have been selected by their State to attend Federal OCS. (A branch must be assigned to the applicant prior to attending basic training). Who pays for BT to BOLC? This program is a federally funded program. This will allow the States to utilize federal dollars and receive a Branch Qualified Officer in return. Branches cover under the program: AD, AG, AR, EN, FA, FI, IN, MP, OD, QM, SC. Candidate must know what branch they want prior to enrolling in the program. The right candidate can enlist in the IAARNG (Pick their Branch) go to BT (11 Weeks) then FED OCS (12 Weeks), commission and the attend BOLC (16 Weeks). Start to finish approximately 39 weeks. This is a great program for someone looking for 10 months of concurrent duty.

18 Direct Commission Commander Recommended (at minimum the current company or battalion commander) Nomination based of: 1. Service Requirement. Minimum of 24 months active status in any federally recognized unit 2. Prior Training. Must graduate Basic Leader Course (Formerly WLC) 3. Age. Minimum of 22 and Max age up to 30. Waiver approved by AG up to 35 and NGB is waiver approval up to Education. Completion of Bachelors degree. Additional requirements: 110 GT Score Pass APFT and Height/Weight Passing Chapter 2 Physical Security Clearance

20 IPAP (Inter-service Physician Assistant Program) REQUIREMENTS Mandatory Courses > 8 years old Six (6) SH of English (3 SH of which must include composition). Six (6) SH of humanities/social sciences Six (6) SH of general chemistry, organic, inorganic, or biochemistry (lab not required) (Introductory courses not acceptable) Three (3) SH of human anatomy (lab not required). Three (3) SH of human anatomy and physiology (lab not required). (6) Three (3) semester hours of college algebra or higher level math course (for example, statistics). Three (3) SH of psychology Minimum GPA (Overall and Science Courses) SAT (GRE is not acceptable substitute) 80 hours of documented shadowing military or civilian PA LORs from Unit Commander and Immediate Supervisor INELIGIBILITY Applicants with over 13 years total AFS Over age 47 Applicants with P2 Profile (except for Eyes and Hearing) COURSE OVERVIEW Didactic (Instructional) Instruction (Phase I) is 64 weeks at FSH Applicatory (Clinical) Training occurs at Army MTFs for 52 weeks. Guidance is usually published every August with a February deadline SERVICE OBLIGATION Six years from appointment as a 65D

22 Warrant Officer Candidate School What is a Warrant Officer: The Army warrant officer (WO) is a self aware and adaptive technical expert, combat leader, trainer, and advisor. The WO administers, manages, maintains, operates, and integrates Army systems and equipment across the full spectrum of Army operations. Are you Warrant Officer material? You are the expert. 24 WOCS Basic Eligibility Minimum Qualification: - Must be a U.S. citizen. - GT Score Security Clearance. - Pass Standard 3 event APFT. - High School Diploma or GED completion. - A college degree is not required; however, some WOMOS have additional requirements. More in depth requirements are found in the Warrant Officer Application Guide. Technical Warrant: Age:18-46 (not more than 46 by initial appointment date) Rank: Min. of E-5 for most WOMOS Meet prerequisites listed on USAREC website (listed below & on page 2 of application guide) Aviation Prerequisites: Any MOS can apply Age: 18-32(not more than 32 by start of IERW) Min. score of 40 on SIFT test Pass Class 1A flight physical

If packet is disapproved, we will review it and determine if it can be resubmitted. 3. Appointment. WOCS Packet Process Chapter 2 phy. (MEPS or AMEDD) Complete Federal Recognition Board (FRB) packet. Federal Recognition Board. After completion of FRB, you are pinned WOC.
