4 Readiness Sustainment Training (REST) Activity: Full day of training to take place days after return from deployment. This training will cover: SHARP, suicide, Soldier Resiliency, Family Resiliency, Domestic Violence/Child Abuse/Child neglect, financial readiness, DUI, and unit risk inventories. The training will leverage round robin and discussion based methods. Target Audience: Soldiers and Family Members Purpose: This mandatory training will improve readiness by providing targeted training tailored to the unit and type of deployment IOT prevent high risk behaviors seen after deployments. It addresses the challenge that many Soldiers and Family Members do not retain the information provided during the standard 10 day reintegration training and many high risk behaviors begin to occur after return from block leave. 8 DHHB Spouse Reintegration Training Event Who: Army Community Service (ACS). What: DHHB Spouse Reintegration Training. Purpose: IAW AR 608-1, ACS partnered with the USO on 21 March, to conduct a Reintegration brief to better prepare Spouses for the return of their Soldier. Event was structured to increase interaction, build connections that led to the sharing of personal stories/experiences that assisted all Spouses. Summary: ACS/MFLC s provided training. To increase awareness of the USO and their capabilities, a partnership took place. USO provided drinks, fruit, chips for the unit, who brought food for the event. Spouses were led through an Icebreaker that built teams which they would belong to for the duration of the event. Once training began, children made welcome home banners/signs. Facilitated discussions took place by the following SME s: ACS Mob/Dep: Expectation Management ACS Financial Readiness: Post Deployment Finances MFLC: Stress Management/Communication End State: A NEW style, interactive Reintegration training that was attended by 48 Spouses, 19 Children, Unit Rear Detachment Leadership. Leadership from 1 st ABCT and DIV Sustainment BDE s observed the event but did not participate. 8

12 Readiness Sustainment Training (REST) Goal This mandatory training will improve readiness by providing targeted, interactive training tailored to the unit and type of deployment during the day post deployment high risk window. Addresses the challenge that many Soldiers and Family Members do not retain the information provided during the standard 10 day reintegration training and many high risk behaviors begin to occur after return from block leave. 18 Living on a Plan: Creating a Budget that Works! Activity: Explore the use of budgets, goals and financial statements. Identify the essential elements of a budget. Prepare a spending plan, identify an Action plan and identify debt to income ratio. Target Audience: Soldiers, Family Members, Individuals and couples exhibiting High Risk behaviors. Purpose: To gain an understanding of the importance of living of a budget. Location: Commander determines training location; however, training can be conducted at ACS BLDG Lindquist Road, FSGA. Training will be provided at unit s area or the field. Length of Training: Typically 1 1/2 hour; however, time can be adjusted. Supporting Agency: ACS Financial Readiness Team. 19 Saving and Investing Activity: Understand the purpose of saving and investing and to become familiar with the basics of savings uses and tools. Gain knowledge on TSP/BRS, Stocks, Bonds, Mutual Funds and investment techniques. Target Audience: Soldiers, Family Members, Individuals and couples exhibiting High Risk behaviors. Purpose: To gain an understanding of the importance of saving and investing for a financially secure future/retirement. Location: Commander determines training location; however, training can be conducted at ACS BLDG Lindquist Road, FSGA. Training can be provided at unit s area or the field. Length of Training: Typically 1 1/2 hour; however, time can be adjusted. Supporting Agency: ACS Financial Readiness Team. 20 RECON Challenge: Resiliency, Enrichment, Communication Orienteering, Navigation Activity: RECON Challenge is designed to incorporate reintegration, resiliency, communication, and team work. This challenge has two terrain designs: urban and rural. Working as a team, participants move from point to point on a 4.5 mile land navigation course. Challenges are completed before receiving information to the next area. The 5-8 challenges are based on communication, team work, emotional or relationship. The event and challenges are based upon the unit Commander needs assessment. Target Audience: Families, Couples, Soldiers Purpose: The purpose of the ACS sponsored Land Navigation Challenge is to continue Post Deployment Reintegration and Communication training directed at Soldiers and Family Members from the Fort Stewart-Hunter Army Airfield Area. 21 Family Wellness Training Activity: A discussion providing information regarding family violence. Equipping the audience with the ability to prevent, identify and properly report abuse. Information is also provided regarding available community resources. Target Audience: Soldiers and Family Member Spouses Purpose: Engage leadership within 30 days after redeployment offering education regarding the various forms, impact, and the alternatives to family violence which includes available resources. Location: Leaderships determine the location for training. Length of Training: 1 hour Supporting Agency: ACS, Family Advocacy Program Cost: Free How to Schedule: Family Advocacy Program Specialist, , ACS, Bldg. 82; Please provide at least one week of advance notice. 21
22 Signs and Symptoms of PTSD/TBI Activity: Psychoeducational and interactive training provided by Licensed Behavioral Health Providers assigned to the unit. 24 Incidents Reported by Command Channels Unit Risk Inventory (URI) Self-Reported High-Risk Behavior (Survey Info) Reintegration Unit Risk Inventory (R-URI) 3 Not all high risk behaviors are captured and analyzed through installation reporting. Therefore, to depict actual Soldier and Family member attitudinal and behavioral data, an anonymous survey can be utilized so that Soldiers can remove the fear of reprisal. The R-URI should be administered to a unit between 30 and 180 days of redeployment. Not more than once per 12 months to avoid test burnout. Commanders or Unit Prevention Leaders (UPL) can contact their unit Dedicated ASAP Specialist at to schedule the R-URI for their units. 24
25 Post-Deployment Resilience Training for Spouses/Couples (1-6 Months) Activity: This module focuses on re-establishing and strengthening ties as a Soldier continues to transition back into the Family unit. The training can be attended by couples, or just by the spouse or significant other alone Target Audience: Soldiers, Spouses, and/or significant others Purpose: Strengthen ties as a Soldier transitions back into a Family unit. Location: This module can be delivered at the R2 Performance Center or at any venue with projection capability. 26 Post-Deployment Resilience Training for Soldiers (3-6 Months) Activity: This module discusses the continuing transition home, and acts as a progress check for the common challenges discussed during the reintegration period. Self-aid and buddy-aid are also discussed Target Audience: Soldiers 3-6 months after a deployment has been completed Purpose: Provides a progress check as Soldiers continue to reintegrate Location: This module can be delivered at the R2 Performance Center or at any venue with projection capability. 30 Couple MRT/Strong Bonds Retreat Activity: Couples will complete all skills within MRT during the week and then proceed on a weekend couples retreat. Target Audience: High risk couples. 32 Warrior Challenge Activity: Kayaking / Low Ropes Course / Mountain Biking / Paintball Target Audience: Unit Level Purpose: Warrior Adventure Quest (WAQ) is an Army RESET training tool designed to introduce Soldiers to activities that serve as alternatives to aberrant behaviors often associated with accidents involving recently re-deployed Soldiers. This tool presents coping outlets to help Soldiers realize their own new level of normal after deployment and "move on" with their lives.
