Cited in the U.S. Senate Record for forming and being elected Commander of the only campus based chapter of the Disabled American Veterans in the United States in history, and for activism in initiating a movement to make the campus at Indiana University, Bloomington, IN, more accessible for all handicapped students. 3. Selected by then Indiana Governor Otis R. Bowen [future Secretary of HHS in the Reagan Administration] to serve on a select committee for the State of Indiana for the Employment of the Handicapped [Chaired by L. Keith Bulen, future Reagan Administration White House appointee]. 4. Selected by Brigadier General Emmett Bean to serve on the Commanding General s Advisory Council at Fort Benjamin Harrison, Indianapolis, Indiana. 5. Met with Secretary of the Army, Clifford Alexander, at the Pentagon to discuss military retiree issues. 13. Indiana Football Hall of Fame, elected to 4-year term on Board of Directors, Richmond, Indiana. 14. Elected for two terms as the President of the General Anthony Wayne Chapter, Association of the United States Army, Fort Wayne, Indiana. Set records for general membership growth, fund raising, and corporate membership increases, for the chapter. 15. Bush s Inauguration ceremony and Inaugural Ball, Washington, DC [July]-Awarded the national James Dean Humanitarian Award for volunteer activities on behalf of veterans and their families. Only three other persons have received this award [Red Skelton- Comedian, President Jimmy Carter, and Merle Haggard-Country Singer]. The award was given at the Vetfest program at the Nashville Palace in Nashville, Tennessee [December]-Elected as Vice President of the Military Order of the Purple Heart Service Foundation. This elected position oversees the activities of national fund raising initiatives and educational and training programs of the Foundation Candidate for U.S. House of Representatives [Withdrew prior to primary election due to other commitments in veterans organization affairs.] [November]-Selected to be Chairman of the MOPH Foundation s Investment Committee. This committee invests and manages $34,000,000 in funds for its non-profit foundation that gives grants to combat wounded veterans to assist them in overcoming their injuries and regaining quality of life Speaker at the Alaska MOPH convention, along with Gov. This training focused on trends in corporate and personal gifting to non-profit organizations, securing corporate and other major level donations, and strategic planning for non-profit organizations Presented the Florida Veterans Medal at a ceremony in Tampa, Florida, by Governor Rick Scott, for meritorious service rendered to Florida s veterans and their families Selected by the American Health Care Association to be a speaker at their national convention held in Nashville, TN. The topic was If I Lead, Will You Follow? Awarded the Sagamore of the Wabash award by Indiana Governor Mike Pence. This is the highest award the Governor of Indiana may bestow upon a recipient Inducted into the Florida Veterans Hall of Fame for honorable service to veterans, active duty military, and military retirees. Induction service was held at the Florida State Capitol Building. The above activities show that an ordinary person like me, Fred Taylor, can get opportunities to engage in extraordinary events and achieve positive results.
