Welcome Dear fellow sheep breeders We are proud of the quality of the 193 rams we will present for sale. They are backed by 38 years of stud breeding experience, plus rigid testing within our own commercial breeding program. This year we have made the decision to offer all of our stud rams at our annual sale. Our intention is to give potential stud ram buyers the greatest possible choice.the stud recently competed in the Border Leicester Feature Breed event at the Adelaide Show, achieving the most successful exhibitor award. We invite your inspection and encourage your feedback and honest assessment of our Coolawang Border Leicesters. We look forward to catching up with you and answering any queries you may have on our stock. The James Family Mundulla SA Ph (08) Brucellosis Acc No: 589 OJD MAP MN3V No: S263
MANAGEMENT OF YOUR NEW RAM PAGE 4 We have done our best to present the best of our annual draft of naturally reared, structurally sound rams for your selection. We undertake a program to provide sheep sold from this property free from Brucellosis and Ovine Johnes Disease. One week prior to sale the rams are vaccinated with eweguard {Cydectin + 6in 1 ). Regular drench resistance trials show Cydectin to be 100% effective against worms present. Rams are treated with Avenge at shearing. Rams were vaccinated with Virbac Multimin to aid in the rams development as a productive sire. From now on his management is very much your concern and will influence what his productive life will be in your breeding program. We wish you every success with your purchase, and being personally interested in his future we suggest; That you insure your ram(s) for the next six months. He will be more susceptible to injury, death and loss of use in this time, than in any other period in his lifetime. Place him in a secure paddock away from other rams and unjoined females until mating. Be aware that Brucellosis can be transmitted to rams from recently joined females, as well as sexually active males. Before mating feed him well. Remember, semen is manufactured six weeks prior to use. A supplementary diet including lupins is a proven method of increasing semen quality. Border Leicester Rams are sold with at least three months wool to show fleece quality to a purchaser. Depending on your mating time shearing should be considered as rams work better with shorter wool. Flystrike and grass seed problems would be minimised. Do not overwork him in his first season. Preferably put him with older ewes. After use, treat him well. He is your investment for future years. Maintain a drench and vaccination ( 6 in 1 ) program. Provide good nutrition and regular physical examinations to help ensure a long productive life.
Royal Adelaide Show 2018 Coolawang 329/17 Junior Champion Border Leicester Ram Grand Champion Border Leicester Ram Interbreed Champion Longwool Ram This ram s grandsire, Coolawang 88/12 sold to the Graham family in 2013 for an Australian record price of $18,200.
COOLAWANG DRENCH RESISTANCE STATUS PAGE 6 % Efficacy Duo Ivomec Abamectin Moxidectin Aba + Duo Ostertagia Trichostrongylus Haemonchus FECRT=Faecal Egg Count Reduction Test A drench is regarded as being effective when it achieves 95% and above reduction in faecal egg counts. The overall drench resistance of Coolawang is excellent, being well above the average resistance status of properties in South Australia and Victoria. The breeding value for worm egg counts ( WEC ) used in the Lambplan Data is read in the following way. A value of -19% is average and the higher the negative the better. To be in the top 10% for maternal breed flocks using Lambplan -48% is needed.
HEALTH STATUS PAGE 7 Brucellosis Accedited No: 589 Ovine Johnes Disease MAP MN3V No: S263 Our current status is MAP MN3V. Our intention is to provide the highest possible standards for the purchasers of Coolawang rams. We remain committed to the MAP testing program with vaccination also part of our program. The MAP testing provides information on the status of sheep on this property with the vaccination giving the sheep lifetime protection once they leave this property.
